The official trailer for The Birthday Party has finally dropped, and it promises a gripping blend of luxury, tension, and emotional conflict set against a stunning Mediterranean backdrop. Backed by Quiver Distribution, the film is directed by acclaimed Spanish filmmaker Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who brings a layered and atmospheric storytelling style to this intriguing narrative.

At the center of the story is Willem Dafoe, who takes on the role of Marcos Timoleon, a powerful and wealthy Greek businessman. Hosting an extravagant 25th birthday celebration for his daughter on his private island, Marcos appears to have everything under control. However, as the night unfolds, hidden agendas, personal revelations, and emotional confrontations begin to surface, threatening not only his authority but also the foundation of his carefully constructed life.

Set in the late 1970s, the film draws inspiration from the larger than life persona of Aristotle Onassis, channeling a world of opulence, influence, and unchecked power. The lavish party becomes more than just a celebration it transforms into a battleground of intentions, where guests arrive with their own motives and expectations. As the atmosphere grows increasingly intense, the film dives deep into themes of control, legacy, and familial bonds.

The ensemble cast adds further depth to the story, featuring performances by Vic Carmen Sonne as Sofia, the daughter and sole heiress, alongside Joe Cole, Emma Suárez, Christos Stergioglou, Antonis Tsiotsiopoulos, and Elsa Lekakou. Each character brings their own layer of intrigue, ensuring that the narrative remains unpredictable and emotionally charged throughout.

As Sofia arrives at the party with important news of her own, the dynamic between father and daughter becomes the emotional core of the film. Marcos, a man accustomed to absolute control, finds himself facing a situation he cannot easily manipulate. The growing tension between them builds toward a powerful and heartbreaking climax, making the film as much about personal conflict as it is about external drama.

The screenplay, co written by Jiménez along with Giorgos Karnavas and Nicos Panagiotopoulos, is based on the novel by Panos Karnezis. This literary foundation adds richness to the narrative, blending character driven storytelling with a visually striking setting.

Scheduled for release on June 5, 2026, The Birthday Party is shaping up to be a compelling summer watch for fans of intense drama and character driven cinema. With a powerful lead performance and a story that explores the cracks beneath a glamorous surface, this film is ready to leave a lasting impression.
