Filmmaker Vinod Kapri has shared a deeply moving story behind the song “Jhir Jhir Baras Rahe Ho Badra” from his upcoming film PYRE, revealing how legendary lyricist and filmmaker Gulzar offered to write for the project without asking for any compensation. In an emotional social media post, Kapri described the experience of bringing together Gulzar and Oscar-winning composer Mychael Danna for the song, calling the collaboration a dream come true.

Kapri expressed his joy at having two celebrated creative minds contribute to the film. Gulzar, known for his evocative lyrics and distinctive storytelling, joined hands with Danna, who won an Academy Award for his work on Life of Pi. According to Kapri, the collaboration was particularly fascinating because the lyricist and composer never met in person during the making of the song. Instead, their conversations about the lyrics took place over Zoom video calls.

However, it was Gulzar’s response to watching PYRE that left the filmmaker with a memory he says he will cherish for a lifetime. Recalling the moment, Kapri shared that Gulzar’s first reaction after watching the film was, “If I don't write a song for such a beautiful film, then for whose film will I write it?”

The gesture became even more meaningful when Kapri discovered that no discussion about payment had taken place before Gulzar wrote the song. Unsure about how to proceed, the director contacted the lyricist’s manager to ask whether compensation had been discussed and what the next step should be.

Within two or three minutes, Kapri received a personal call from Gulzar himself. The veteran artist reportedly told him, “You've made such a wonderful film, Vinod. Should I take money from you for this song?”

The filmmaker said Gulzar’s words moved him profoundly. For Kapri, the experience went beyond a professional collaboration, becoming a powerful reminder of the generosity and affection that artists can extend to one another. He expressed his gratitude to Gulzar, saying that the love, blessings and encouragement he had received meant more to him than any award.

Kapri also thanked Mychael Danna for his contribution, along with Shruti Sadolikar and Saar Singhal, acknowledging the people who helped bring the musical piece to life. His post highlighted not only the creative partnership behind the song but also the personal connections that can make a filmmaking journey unforgettable.

Titled “Jhir Jhir Baras Rahe Ho Badra,” the song is featured in PYRE, also known by its Hindi title Chita. The film’s trailer offers glimpses of atmospheric rural landscapes, rain-soaked surroundings and emotionally charged moments, setting a reflective tone for the story.

With PYRE scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 30, 2026, the song offers audiences another glimpse into the film’s emotional world. For Kapri, however, its significance is already deeply personal. His account of Gulzar’s generosity has turned the story behind the song into a tribute to artistic compassion, creative collaboration and the lasting value of encouragement from a respected mentor.
