The official trailer for Bollywoof, an upcoming animated adventure comedy from Sky TV and Vue, has been released, introducing audiences to Basil, a British Springer Spaniel who accidentally gets lost in India. Packed with comedy, friendship, colourful visuals and Bollywood-inspired dance sequences, the film promises an entertaining experience for the entire family. Scheduled to arrive on January 22, 2027, Bollywoof combines a fun-filled adventure with an emotional story about loyalty, courage and finding your way home.
The story follows Basil, a lovable Springer Spaniel living happily with his favourite human, 11-year-old Luke Price, in the peaceful Yorkshire countryside. However, their comfortable life takes an unexpected turn when Luke's family relocates to Mumbai for work. In a bizarre twist of fate, Basil accidentally boards the wrong flight and ends up in Kolkata, thousands of miles away from his family. Confused and frightened in an unfamiliar environment, the little dog must find a way to reunite with Luke. What follows is an extraordinary journey across India filled with unexpected encounters and exciting challenges.
During his adventure, Basil meets Santosh, a street dog obsessed with Bollywood, and Uma, a feisty holy cow with a strong personality. The unlikely trio joins forces to help Basil find his family, navigating unfamiliar streets and facing numerous obstacles along the way. Their journey involves travelling by paw, plane and rickshaw, promising plenty of hilarious moments and thrilling situations. Bollywood-inspired dance routines add another entertaining element to the story, giving the animated film a distinctive cultural flavour. Along the way, the characters discover the importance of friendship, teamwork and helping others in difficult situations.
Bollywoof features an impressive English-language voice cast led by David Jonsson as Basil. Joining him are Kunal Nayyar, Academy Award winner Olivia Colman, Ambika Mod, Sanjeev Bhaskar and Rhys Ifans. The talented ensemble brings considerable experience in comedy and drama, potentially adding depth and personality to the film's animated characters. With its mix of British humour and Indian cultural influences, the movie aims to appeal to children while offering enough warmth and entertainment to keep adults engaged. The story's emotional core also makes it more than a simple tale about a lost pet.
The film is directed by Belgian animation filmmaker Frederik Du Chau, with Stephen Leslie writing the screenplay. Its central premise brings together the quiet countryside of Yorkshire and the energetic atmosphere of India, creating a visually varied setting for Basil's adventure. The filmmakers describe Bollywoof as a celebration of friendship, connection and the vitality of India. Through its colourful animation and unusual group of travelling companions, the movie explores universal themes of belonging, courage and loyalty. Basil's journey also highlights how unexpected friendships can develop when people, or animals, from different backgrounds come together.
With its official trailer now available, Bollywoof is building anticipation ahead of its January 22, 2027 release. The combination of an adorable canine hero, an entertaining voice cast and a journey across India gives the animated adventure plenty of family-friendly appeal. Whether audiences are drawn to its comedy, Bollywood-inspired sequences or heartfelt message, Basil's mission to return home offers a relatable story about love and perseverance.
