Mumbai’s festive spirit reached a new high as Bollywood celebrities gathered for the 80th edition of the North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja. Organised annually by the Mukerji family, the celebrations brought together film stars, their families and devotees to seek blessings from Maa Durga. This year’s milestone edition featured a pandal inspired by Kerala’s iconic Guruvayur Temple, blending traditional devotion with an elaborate festive setting. From heartfelt prayers to unexpected musical moments, the celebrations offered plenty for fans to talk about.

One of the biggest highlights came when Ranbir Kapoor arrived at the pandal with filmmaker Ayan Mukerji on Mahasaptami. Dressed in traditional festive attire, the actor joined devotees in seeking blessings before treating the gathering to a musical surprise. Ranbir joined singer Harshdeep Kaur on stage for a rendition of his popular song Kabira from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The unexpected performance brought an extra dose of excitement to the celebrations, with the actor revisiting a song that continues to hold a special place in the hearts of Bollywood music lovers. His appearance with Ayan also delighted fans familiar with their longstanding friendship and creative association.

Kajol remained one of the central figures at the annual celebration, continuing her family’s association with the much-loved puja. The actress was involved in the unveiling of the Maa Durga idol and was joined by her mother, veteran actress Tanuja, sister Tanishaa Mukerji and children Nysa and Yug Devgan during the festivities. For the Mukerji family, the event is more than a celebrity gathering; it is a longstanding tradition that brings relatives, friends and devotees together to celebrate faith and community. Kajol’s presence added to the warmth of an occasion that has become a familiar part of Mumbai’s festive calendar.

Veteran actress Jaya Bachchan also visited the pandal, accompanied by her daughter Shweta Bachchan-Nanda. Their appearance added another prominent Bollywood family to the celebrations. Actress Shilpa Shirodkar was also among those spotted offering prayers during the Mahasaptami and Mahaashtami rituals. The gathering reflected the enduring appeal of Durga Puja among film personalities, many of whom make time for the festivities despite their busy professional schedules.

The celebrity turnout extended well beyond the Mukerji and Bachchan families. Bipasha Basu attended with husband Karan Singh Grover and their daughter, Devi. Mouni Roy, Disha Patani and Shamita Shetty were also among the notable guests. Actors Ravi Kishan, Ronit Roy and Rupali Ganguly added to the star power, making the pandal a meeting point for familiar faces from films and television. Their visits highlighted how the celebrations bring together performers from different generations and corners of the entertainment industry.

This year’s gathering also carried an emotional note. Rani Mukerji reportedly stayed away from the main rituals following the recent passing of her mother, Krishna Mukerji. Her photograph was placed inside the pandal in remembrance, honouring her memory during the family’s annual celebration. The gesture added a deeply personal dimension to the festivities, reminding visitors that the occasion is rooted as much in family bonds as in public celebration.

With its temple-inspired decor, traditional rituals and memorable celebrity moments, the 80th North Bombay Sarbojanin Durga Puja brought together devotion, culture and Bollywood glamour. Ranbir Kapoor’s impromptu Kabira performance may have captured attention, but the heart of the celebration remained the shared faith and family traditions that continue to make the annual event special.
