A simple home robbery, two sisters who can barely stand each other and one painfully unfortunate back injury. Sounds like a recipe for disaster, doesn't it? Briarcliff Entertainment has unveiled the official trailer for Drag, an upcoming dark comedy thriller that turns an ordinary burglary into a hilariously chaotic fight for survival. Starring Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito, the film promises a night filled with bad decisions, family tension and a getaway that is anything but smooth.
The story follows two sisters who decide to rob a rural home in upstate New York. The plan seems straightforward enough: get inside, grab what they want and disappear before anyone notices. But things take a spectacularly wrong turn when one of the sisters suffers a serious back injury and becomes practically immobilised on the second floor. Suddenly, the easy escape becomes an impossible mission. With pain taking over, time running out and the homeowner expected to return, the sisters find themselves trapped in a situation that keeps getting worse by the minute.
What makes the premise particularly entertaining is the relationship between the two burglars. These are not exactly sisters who finish each other's sentences or happily hold hands through difficult situations. Their relationship is already contentious, and being stuck together during a disastrous robbery is hardly going to improve matters. As the night unfolds, their attempt to escape turns into a painful journey involving plenty of frustration, unexpected complications and, presumably, some very colourful arguments. After all, nothing tests sibling bonds quite like a botched crime and an injured back!
The film features Lizzy Caplan and Lucy DeVito in the lead roles, with Christine Ko and John Stamos also joining the cast. Lucy DeVito, daughter of actor Danny DeVito, brings an interesting family connection to the project, which is a DeVito family production. The combination of a tense thriller setup and darkly comic family dynamics gives Drag an unusual flavour. Rather than relying only on conventional chase sequences or crime drama twists, the film finds humour in the increasingly ridiculous circumstances facing its central characters.
Drag also marks the feature directorial debuts of Raviv Ullman and Greg Yagolnitzer, who have co-written and co-directed the film. Taking on both writing and directing duties, the newcomers are bringing a story that blends suspense with uncomfortable comedy. The central situation offers plenty of room for escalating tension, as the sisters must figure out how to get out of the house before their attempted robbery is discovered. The trailer sets up a premise where every effort to fix one problem seems capable of creating three more.
Briarcliff Entertainment's trailer announcement has given audiences their first proper taste of the film's unusual mix of crime, comedy and thriller elements. The rural setting adds to the sense of isolation, while the ticking clock gives the story an urgent edge. With one sister struggling to move and the other forced to manage an increasingly complicated escape, the film looks ready to turn a small-time robbery into one very long night. The question is not just whether they will make it out, but how much worse things can possibly get before they do.
Drag is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on January 29, 2027. With Lizzy Caplan, Lucy DeVito, Christine Ko and John Stamos leading the cast, the film could offer a fresh take on the dark comedy thriller genre. Sometimes the biggest obstacle in a robbery is not an alarm system, a security guard or even the police. Sometimes, it is simply your own back giving up at the worst possible moment!
