A promise to your child should be simple enough to keep, right? Well, not when the universe seems determined to ruin your day at every possible turn! Netflix has dropped the official trailer for Bad Day, an upcoming action comedy starring Cameron Diaz as a single mother whose ordinary responsibilities take a wildly chaotic turn. With one little promise to fulfil and an entire day going spectacularly wrong, the film looks ready to serve up a mix of action, outrageous situations and plenty of comic mayhem.
Diaz plays Joy, a single mother who is determined to show her daughter that she can handle anything life throws at her. Her mission is straightforward: keep one important promise to her child. Unfortunately, the day has other plans. What begins as an attempt to get through an already difficult day soon turns into an increasingly ridiculous adventure. From unexpected confrontations to situations that spiral completely out of control, Joy finds herself pushed to her limits. Her biggest challenge is no longer simply keeping her promise; it is surviving the chaos long enough to do it!
The trailer gives viewers a glimpse of Joy's transformation from an ordinary mother trying to manage her responsibilities into someone capable of taking on almost anything. The film's central idea has a familiar action-comedy flavour, with echoes of stories about an ordinary person pushed beyond breaking point. But here, the madness is wrapped around a mother's determination to prove to her daughter that she has everything under control. The irony, of course, is that absolutely nothing seems to be under control! The tagline, “My job is to show them that I've got this,” captures Joy's determination perfectly, even as her day threatens to become one long disaster.
Cameron Diaz leads a large ensemble cast that includes Danielle Brooks, Rhenzy Feliz, John Higgins, Mark Duplass, Jessica Belkin, Ed O'Neill, Rob Corddry, Ayden Mayeri, Ben Schwartz, Retta, Emma Pearson, P.J. Byrne, Sherry Cola, Edi Patterson and Beck Bennett. With so many comedy performers involved, there is plenty of opportunity for unexpected characters, bizarre encounters and fast-moving comic situations. Diaz's return to the spotlight is another major talking point, as audiences get to see her take on a role that combines motherhood, action and comedy.
Bad Day is directed by Jake Szymanski, a filmmaker and comedy writer known for his work on Saturday Night Live, Funny or Die and Jury Duty Presents. His previous projects include Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, Tour de Pharmacy and The Package. The screenplay has been written by Laura Solon, while Beau Bauman serves as producer. With Szymanski's comedy background and Diaz leading the cast, the film is aiming for a lively blend of physical humour and action-packed entertainment.
Netflix is set to release Bad Day globally on December 11, 2026. The timing makes it an interesting addition to the holiday streaming calendar, especially for viewers looking for something light, chaotic and easy to watch. While the trailer's broad comedy style may not appeal to everyone, its premise offers a familiar kind of escapist entertainment: one person having the worst day imaginable and somehow finding a way to keep going. And let's be honest, most parents have probably had days when they felt like they were fighting an entire army just to keep one small promise!
So, is Bad Day the next big action-comedy treat or simply a collection of increasingly ridiculous situations? The trailer certainly promises plenty of chaos, but the real test will be whether the humour lands when the full film arrives. For now, Cameron Diaz looks ready to turn one disastrous day into a full-blown adventure. And if Joy manages to get through it all, she might just deserve more than a Mother's Day card!
