Actress Yamini Malhotra has spoken out candidly about the emotional manipulation she faced in her early years in the entertainment industry, shedding light on a pattern many young women encounter behind the scenes. In a recent interview, Yamini opened up about how seemingly affectionate phrases like “You’re like my sister” were used as tools to exploit her trust and professionalism.
“When I was starting off, people would often try to manipulate me with emotional traps,” she shared. “There were a lot of ‘you’re like my sister’ moments, where they’d pretend to care—but when it came to actual payment, I’d receive a tiny envelope, like a Shagun. I had to remind them that I wasn’t there to collect blessings at a wedding—I came here as a professional, to earn a living.”
Yamini further revealed that the exploitation extended beyond underpayment. She often had to fight for basic necessities like accommodation during projects. “They would expect me to adjust,” she said. “And it was always wrapped in this ‘sister’ nonsense. I used to think—if you’re like a brother, then pay me extra and send me home safely. It took me time, but I eventually saw through the ‘sister-brother’ trap. Now I insist—let’s be professional. I work, you pay. No games.”
Yamini made her acting debut in 2016 with the Punjabi film Main Teri Tu Mera, followed by roles in Chuttalabbayi (Telugu, 2016), Dil Hona Chahida Jawan (2023), and Nanak Naam Jahaz Hai (2024). However, she rose to wider prominence with her role as Shivani Chavan in the hit TV drama Ghum Hai Kisikey Pyaar Meiin, which she later exited. The role was eventually taken over by Tanvi Thakkar.
Her recent appearance as a wildcard contestant in Bigg Boss 18 marked her return to Hindi television after nearly three years, offering fans a fresh glimpse of her fearless personality. By speaking up, Yamini is not just reclaiming her narrative—but also highlighting the importance of respect and fairness in an industry still grappling with unprofessional norms masked as “family vibes.”
