Amit Sadh is gearing up for the release of his upcoming action thriller Pratap, in which he plays ACP Pratap Ranade, a celebrated Mumbai encounter specialist whose life takes a dramatic turn. At a recent interaction, the actor was asked how the film could stand out in a genre where several memorable encounter specialist characters have already made a strong impression on audiences. Amit explained that the team never intended to surpass earlier films but instead wanted to explore a different side of such characters.

Responding to the question, Amit said, “We haven't tried to surpass anyone in this film. As I mentioned earlier, films on this subject have been made—and very good ones at that—from which one can certainly draw inspiration.” He acknowledged the impact of previous films in the genre while pointing out that Pratap approaches its central character from a fresh perspective. According to the actor, the film looks beyond the familiar image of a tough, celebrated police officer to examine the emotional and psychological struggles that come with such a life.

Amit further highlighted the internal conflicts that distinguish the film from conventional cop dramas. “Previous films in this genre haven't really focused on the internal conflicts these characters face—what they go through,” he explained. He also referred to the idea of karma catching up with a person, suggesting that the story explores the consequences of one's actions and the unexpected turns that life can take. Sharing a thought about the character’s journey, Amit said, “We all soar at some point in our lives, but then nature, God, or circumstances intervene and clip our wings.” For him, this shift in perspective is among the elements that could make Pratap an engaging watch.

In the film, Amit portrays a highly decorated Mumbai encounter specialist credited with 26 successful operations. Pratap Ranade’s public image as a formidable police officer comes crashing down after a leaked video shows him assaulting a high-profile criminal who later dies in police custody. Stripped of his badge and denied bail, Pratap finds himself behind bars at Mumbai Central Prison, forced to confront a world in which he no longer holds authority. The story follows his struggle to survive inside prison while uncovering a larger conspiracy connected to his downfall.

Amit has described the project as more than a conventional, larger-than-life cop story. The character’s transformation—from a man accustomed to enforcing the law to someone facing the consequences of a system that has turned against him—forms the emotional core of the narrative. The film also explores how Pratap’s past choices, personal relationships and changing circumstances shape his journey. Esha Deol plays Poonam Ranade, Pratap’s wife, whose life is also affected by the sudden collapse of her husband’s public standing. Her character adds a personal dimension to the film’s themes of loss, resilience and rebuilding.

Directed and written by Sachin Saraf, Pratap also stars Seema Biswas, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Milind Gunaji and Dushyant Wagh. Produced by Pradeep Rangwani under UV Films, the gritty action thriller aims to combine an intense prison drama with questions about justice, accountability and the human cost of power. Pratap is scheduled to release in cinemas on 20 November 2026.
