Well Go USA has just dropped the official trailer for A Cool Fish 2, the long-awaited sequel to Rao Xiaozhi’s cult hit A Cool Fish (2018). Back with more chaos, dark humor, and unpredictable turns, the sequel promises to double down on the quirky, gritty tone that made the original a sleeper success. Directed once again by Rao Xiaozhi, A Cool Fish 2 is set to release in theaters on July 18, 2025.
This time, the story shifts to the streets of Bangkok, where Chen Sanjin (Zhang Yu)—younger brother of an ambitious Yiwu-based businessman—finds himself deep in trouble. After a messy breakup with the sharp-tongued Xue Fangmei (Ren Suxi), the two unexpectedly get tangled in a criminal group’s kidnapping plot. What starts as a business trip to expand Sanjin's entrepreneurial dreams quickly spirals into chaos, with a terrorist attack and economic collapse adding to the madness.
The film stars Zhang Yu, Ren Suxi, Pan Binlong, Ma Yinyin, and Guo Yiqian, all bringing flair to a narrative that balances absurdity with sharp social commentary. Sanjin’s arc—torn between ambition and survival—raises the stakes in a city that feels as unpredictable as he is. Will he be consumed by the darkness closing in, or rise above it in true anti-hero fashion?
Written by Rao Xiaozhi, Lili Wang, and Quan Zhou, A Cool Fish 2 continues the franchise’s tradition of blending character-driven comedy with gritty, urban drama. With Bangkok as the vibrant, dangerous backdrop, the sequel seems poised to deliver action, heart, and more than a few surprising laughs—making it a must-watch for fans of offbeat crime comedies.
