The trailer of Haq, starring Yami Gautam Dhar and Emraan Hashmi, dropped this Monday — instantly igniting discussion for its bold subject and intense emotional tone. At the trailer launch, director Suparn Verma opened up about the courage it took to make a film that doesn’t shy away from uncomfortable truths.

“Honestly, when I made Ek Bandaa Kaafi Hai, the fear was much greater,” Suparn admitted. “But the kind of support and response we received from the audience back then made us realise that people want such stories to be told. That gave us the confidence to move forward with Haq.”

He revealed that the idea for Haq didn’t emerge overnight. “We started researching this film years ago,” he said. “Our entire strength came from one belief — that this is a film that needs to be made and talked about. These issues have existed in our society for decades, and they’re still relevant today. It’s time we start having these conversations.”

The filmmaker shared that the team spent nearly three years researching and writing the script to ensure authenticity and depth in its narrative. Unlike a typical mainstream drama that might rely on love stories to engage viewers, Haq takes a bold turn by exploring what happens when love itself is put to the test.

“There was definitely a temptation to make it romantic,” Suparn said with a smile. “When you have Emraan Hashmi and Yami Gautam together, of course, the greed is there — Emraan is the king of romance; every woman wants to be his heroine and every man wants to be him. We even had a version where the romance played out for much longer. But the heart of Haq isn’t about romance — it’s about what happens when a marriage ends, and a drama begins. That’s where the story truly starts.”

For Suparn, the film dives deep into universal emotions and moral conflicts. “Haq ultimately comes down to two things — a man’s belief in what he stands for, and a woman’s right to her dignity and self-respect,” he explained. “These are the fundamental questions within a marriage, and that’s the journey this film explores.”

Praising his lead actors, Suparn also spoke about the song “Qubool Hai” by Vishal Mishra, which beautifully captures the emotional core of the film. “What I love most about that song is how Emraan and Yami — being the seasoned artists they are — managed to condense a decade’s worth of romance into just two minutes before the real conflict begins. That’s pure magic.”

With Haq, Suparn Verma seems ready to challenge audiences once again, pushing boundaries while telling a story that blends personal pain, faith, and the fight for justice.

The film, produced by Junglee Pictures, Insomnia Films, and Baweja Studios, releases in theatres on November 7, 2025 — promising to spark dialogue long after the credits roll.
