Tahir Raj Bhasin has once again entered the world of suspense with Netflix’s upcoming mystery thriller Shaque: Trust No One, but the actor insists that it is not simply another thriller role for him. At the trailer launch in Mumbai, Tahir opened up about his fascination with the genre and explained why his character Alok made the project particularly exciting. The event was attended by Parineeti Chopra, Anup Soni, Soni Razdan, Jennifer Winget, Harleen Sethi, Tanya Bami of Netflix, director Rensil D’Silva and producer Siddharth P. Malhotra.
When asked about his recurring association with thrillers, from Mardaani 2 to Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein and now Shaque, Tahir pointed out that the popularity of suspense stories reflects the times audiences are living in. “I think it really reflects the current times that the thriller and suspense genre is booming—whether in films or series,” the actor said. Tahir also expressed his gratitude to Netflix and Tanya Bami for considering him for Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein, while praising Siddharth P. Malhotra and Rensil D’Silva, whose work he had admired for years.
For Tahir, however, his love for mysteries goes well beyond his professional choices. The actor revealed that thrillers have been a part of his life since childhood, saying he grew up reading everything from Hardy Boys to Agatha Christie. His viewing habits have followed the same pattern, with films such as Glass Onion and Murder on the Orient Express among the mysteries that naturally draw his attention. So when Shaque came his way, the genre itself was certainly attractive, but it was the complexity of his character that ultimately sealed the deal.
Tahir plays Alok, the husband of Parineeti Chopra’s character, and describes him as someone who cannot be reduced to a single relationship. “He isn't just a husband; he’s also a father, a son, a neighbor, and a friend,” Tahir explained, highlighting the different dynamics Alok shares with the people around him. He further teased that the character reveals a different side in every episode, promising viewers a performance where appearances may change as the mystery deepens. “You will see a new face,” he added, suggesting that Alok could have several layers waiting to be uncovered.
The trailer centres on Parineeti’s character, a mother whose newborn daughter is abducted from the Royal Shimla Hospital. The story then jumps nine years ahead, finding her still refusing to give up the search for her missing child. Her quest takes her into a complicated maze of deceit, paranoia and fractured relationships, where even family members and close friends begin to look suspicious. With the title Shaque: Trust No One, the series makes its central warning rather clear — in this mystery, trusting the wrong person could come at a devastating cost.
Directed by Rensil D’Silva and produced by Siddharth P. Malhotra under Alchemy Films, Shaque features an ensemble cast including Jennifer Winget, Soni Razdan, Anup Soni, Harleen Sethi and Sumeet Vyas alongside Parineeti Chopra and Tahir Raj Bhasin. The series will premiere globally on Netflix on September 24, 2026. With Tahir bringing his long-standing love for mysteries to a character packed with contradictions, Shaque could offer the actor another opportunity to prove that being associated with thrillers does not necessarily mean playing the same character twice.
