While the team of KD: The Devil was busy lighting up Mumbai with excitement for their upcoming multilingual action drama, one reporter decided to throw in a spicy curveball — a question about the ongoing language row in Maharashtra. But Shilpa? Cool as ever. She didn’t flinch, she flipped the script.
At first, she played it off like a pro, cheekily pointing to co-star Sanjay Dutt with a grin: “Sanjay will talk about this.” (Honestly, fair. Who wouldn’t pass the mic to Baba when things get political?)
But then came the signature Shilpa moment — heartfelt, poised, and full of flair:
Mala Marathi maahit aahe. Me Maharashtrachi mulgi aahe.

Yes, Shilpa is from Mangalore, married to a Punjabi, and has ruled hearts across India, but in that moment, she claimed her Mumbai roots loud and proud — all without letting the event derail into controversy territory. “We’re here to talk about KD. If you’re trying to stir controversy beyond the film, we won’t encourage that,” she added, neatly shutting down the drama.
And just in case anyone needed reminding that KD isn’t just another masala flick, Shilpa casually mentioned, “Our movie is multilingual. We can dub it in Marathi.” Smooth, inclusive, and totally on-brand for a film set in 1970s Bengaluru, loaded with Kannada swag, and starring the powerhouse trio of Dhruva Sarja, V. Ravichandran, and Shilpa herself — returning to Kannada cinema after a whole 20 years.
