Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, remembered and revered by millions for his powerful portrayal of Karna in B.R. Chopra’s legendary TV series Mahabharat, passed away on October 15, 2025, after a prolonged battle with cancer. He was 65.
The news was confirmed by his long-time friend and colleague Amit Behl, also a member of CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes’ Association). An official statement from the association expressed deep sorrow: "With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA's former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on 15th October 2025. The cremation will be held today at 4:30 pm, next to Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai."
Dheer had reportedly been battling cancer for some time. While he showed remarkable resilience during treatment, the disease returned a few months ago, ultimately leading to his decline. He had also undergone major surgery related to his condition.
Beyond Mahabharat, Pankaj Dheer had a prolific career spanning film and television. He appeared in films like Sanam Bewafa, Baadshah, and shows like Chandrakanta and Sasural Simar Ka. He also ventured behind the camera as the director of My Father Godfather and founded the Abhinay Acting Academy, mentoring the next generation of performers.
Pankaj Dheer is survived by his wife, Anita Dheer, and son, actor Nikitin Dheer.
As the curtain falls on a remarkable life and career, his legacy — especially as Karna — continues to live on in history books, on-screen reruns, and in the hearts of millions.
