Netflix has dropped the official trailer for its upcoming limited series Wayward, a genre-bending psychological thriller set in the deceptively idyllic town of Tall Pines. Created by Mae Martin, who also stars in the series, Wayward promises to be a gripping exploration of buried secrets, generational clashes, and the darkness that festers behind closed doors.
The series follows Alex Dempsey (played by Mae Martin), a police officer who relocates to Tall Pines with his pregnant wife Laura (played by Sarah Gadon). But what starts as a fresh beginning quickly takes a twisted turn. After connecting with two rebellious students—Abbie (Sydney Topliffe) and Leila (Alyvia Alyn Lind)—from a local reform school for "troubled teens", Alex uncovers cracks in the town’s polished surface. These girls, desperate to escape, may hold the key to unraveling a far darker truth.
The heart of that mystery lies within the ominous school, led by Evelyn, a chillingly enigmatic figure played by Toni Collette. As strange incidents mount and alliances form and fray, Alex finds himself torn between loyalty, truth, and survival. With standout performances from a stellar ensemble cast—Brandon Jay McLaren, Tattiawna Jones, Isolde Ardies, and Joshua Close—Wayward is poised to deliver both emotional depth and spine-tingling suspense.
The show is co-showrun by Mae Martin and Ryan Scott, with an impressive writing team including Evangeline Ordaz, Mohamad El Masri, Kim Steele, Kayla Lorette, Alex Elbridge, and Misha Osherovich. Behind the camera, directors Euros Lyn, Renuka Jeyapalan, and John Fawcett (of Orphan Black fame) bring the haunting vision of Tall Pines to life.
