Netflix India fans are in for a treat as Saif Ali Khan returns to the platform with not one, but two exciting projects—a historical series Hum Hindustani and an investigative crime thriller Kartavya. For Khan, this marks a continuation of his decade-long association with Netflix, which began with the groundbreaking Sacred Games in 2018, widely credited with sparking India’s streaming boom.
Talking about the series Hum Hindustani, Saif Ali Khan shared, “You know, in a word, honestly, it feels like being at home because, yes, Netflix and I started off together 10 years ago, as you said, and it was a lovely, lovely show. Sacred Games was amazing, and I think it has always stood for high quality, and the people we work with, you know, even in production, have made sure that we make a lovely, good-looking, and very interesting product every time.”
“I remember we shot a piece of film once, and it had gone for quality control. You have to shoot on certain levels of cameras; there's a certain standard set when you shoot for Netflix, and even the kind of minds that were writing and creating. So it's always been really, really interesting, and this time, to get a chance to do a film like this, to work with Prateek and Emmay Productions, has been incredible. We got a subject about India, how India became the world's largest democracy, and it was an exciting story to tell, and it's always been lovely, and I look forward to more, you know, 100%” added Saif.
The series is written and directed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Nikkhil Advani, Monisha Advani, and Madhu Bhojwani under Emmay Entertainment. Saif Ali Khan stars alongside Pratik Gandhi, Deepak Dobriyal, Mimi Chakraborty, Sarika, and Shraddha Dangar, offering audiences a deep dive into India’s historical journey with the scale and cinematic quality Netflix is known for.
Adding to his excitement, Saif also spoke about his upcoming movie with Netflix, Kartavya: “Well, we just finished doing a movie called Kartavya. Oh wow, which is really great. Which Shah Rukh's company, Red Chillies, has produced. And it's going to be coming out soon. And it's a really lovely piece by a director called Pulkit, and it's kind of, you know, it's a beautiful, beautiful piece. So, I'm very happy that that's also coming out on Netflix. So it's like, here, yeah, here I am looking forward to it.”
Kartavya is an investigative crime thriller set in the Indian heartland. It follows Pawan Malik (Saif Ali Khan), a police officer torn between his professional duty and his family’s safety as escalating threats push him to the edge. The film also stars Rasika Dugal, Sanjay Mishra, and marks the acting debut of journalist Saurabh Dwivedi. Produced by Gauri Khan under Red Chillies Entertainment and directed by Pulkit (known for Bhakshak), the film promises intense drama and moral dilemmas set against a gritty, realistic backdrop.
With Saif Ali Khan leading both a historical series and a high-stakes crime thriller, Netflix India’s 2026 lineup promises to be a spectacular year for fans of diverse and high-quality storytelling.
