Netflix India has unveiled the official trailer of Kurukshetra, its first mythological animated series, which will air on October 10, 2025. The show is a contemporary retelling of the Indian classic Mahabharata, highlighting the ethical conundrums, internal struggles, and emotional torments of 18 primary warriors of the epic 18-day battle between Pandavas and Kauravas.
Designed and developed by Anu Sikka, it is written and directed by Ujaan Ganguly, while the poetry has been contributed by legendary poet Gulzar, lending a poetic complexity to the narrative. The animation is being brought out by Hitech Animation. The story unfolds the epic from the point of view of these 18 warriors, all grappling with individual grudges, fates, and the tragic price of a family war that puts dharma (righteousness) and adharm (unrighteousness) to test.
Kurukshetra aims to bring ancient wisdom into a contemporary format by highlighting the human emotions behind the grand mythological conflict. Key moments like Arjuna’s difficult choices, Draupadi’s quest for justice, Duryodhan’s ambition, and Bhishma Pitamah’s wisdom are portrayed vividly. The theme is encapsulated by Lord Krishna’s famous words, “Iss yuddh mein na koi mitra hai, na koi shatru” (This war has no friends or enemies).
The show will come out in two parts, each containing nine episodes, and will be a comprehensive, immersive experience of the epic story. It will appeal to audiences by presenting the Mahabharata's universal themes of duty, morality, and family strife in a relatable and emotionally resonant manner.
Kurukshetra will be streaming only on Netflix from October 10, 2025.
