Veteran actor Mukesh Khanna, known for his iconic roles as Shaktimaan and Bhishma in B. R. Chopra's Mahabharat, has unveiled a powerful new project — Paheli Geet 2, a patriotic song that blends history, emotion, and melody to educate and inspire the younger generation about India’s unsung freedom fighters.
Speaking about the song, Khanna shared his passion behind the Jai Hind Abhiyan, a campaign he has championed for over a decade. “This is the second occasion where I am bringing something new on the same concept — my Jai Hind Abhiyan,” he said. “The idea is to get due credit for all the freedom fighters. We are fighting to grant them Shaheed Darja (martyr status). From Chandra Shekhar Azad to countless others, we are pushing for recognition of the 7000 revolutionaries who gave their lives for India’s freedom.”
Paheli Geet 2 aims to go beyond the textbook heroes and shine a light on the lesser-known revolutionaries who played crucial roles in India’s struggle for independence. Khanna believes music can be a powerful tool for storytelling and emotional connection, especially for the youth who might only know 10–15 popular names from that era.
“This song is a way to let people know about these freedom fighters,” he added. “Somewhere, I felt making a song would be the best way to tell their stories and keep their memories alive.”
Khanna, who remains a towering figure in Indian entertainment, reflected on his own journey with gratitude. “I feel lucky to have played roles like Shaktimaan and Bhishma — both have left a deep impact. And now, through this campaign and music, I hope to leave another kind of impact — one that honors our real-life heroes.”
