Veteran filmmaker Singeetam Srinivasa Rao, one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated visionaries, is all set to return with his 61st directorial venture, tentatively titled #SSR61. The announcement was teased by Vyjayanthi Movies on X with a powerful caption calling the 94-year-old maestro “a visionary, a master, a genius ahead of time,” instantly sparking excitement across the film industry.
The announcement video, released on January 31, 2026, features a moving montage of Rao’s illustrious career, blending archival clips, interviews, and award moments. Best known for path-breaking films like India’s first silent movie “Pushpaka Vimana” (1987) and the cult sci-fi classic “Aditya 369” (1991), Rao’s return is being hailed as a historic moment for Telugu and Indian cinema.
What adds to the buzz is the powerhouse collaboration backing #SSR61. Nag Ashwin, fresh from the success of Kalki 2898 AD, is on board as producer and creative consultant, ensuring the veteran director’s vision is realised with contemporary technical finesse. The project is being bankrolled by Swapna Cinema, in association with the prestigious Vyjayanthi Movies banner, while Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) has been roped in to compose the music.
According to reports, #SSR61 is envisioned as a female-centric drama, a story Singeetam Srinivasa Rao reportedly shared with Nag Ashwin during their collaboration on Kalki 2898 AD, where Rao served as a script consultant. While casting details are yet to be officially announced, industry buzz suggests a Malayalam actress may headline the film, with the title reveal expected soon.
The teaser has already gone viral, reigniting speculation about whether the film could be a spiritual successor to Aditya 369 or an entirely new cinematic experiment.
