Netflix is gearing up for the release of Operation Safed Sagar, an upcoming Indian military drama series slated for 2026. The show delves into the historic 1999 Kargil War, highlighting the Indian Air Force’s pivotal role in the first large-scale air operations in the region since 1971. With high-altitude missions, strategic decisions, and personal sacrifices at its core, the series promises a gripping and authentic portrayal of one of India’s most critical military operations.
Speaking about his role, Jimmy Shergill shared, “Good evening everyone. First of all, I apologize that I'm not in the look today. I played Dhanova sir's role. You'll see it in the trailer. I'm shooting for something else. But for almost two years, we were in that look. We did everything. Now we've moved on. But this show will always remain with me.”
Shergill also reflected on the preparation and dedication behind the series, saying, “Before shooting, we went to Dhanova sir's house. We met him. We had a wonderful lunch. His wife fed us, and after that, many things unfolded. In many things, there are creative decisions where you have to take cinematic liberties. But otherwise, I think somewhere this show has remained true to the soul of the story and tried to be as real as possible, and that's what I felt when I read the script, and that's what I felt when we were shooting it, and that's what I feel today after having completed it.”
Directed by Oni Sen (Asur) and created by Abhijeet Singh Parmar and Kushal Srivastava, the series was filmed at operational IAF bases with real aircraft and personnel to capture the authenticity of the missions. The story follows pilots operating at altitudes of up to 18,000 feet, highlighting the extreme risks, technical challenges, and human stories behind the operation.
The ensemble cast includes Siddharth as Flight Squadron Leader Ajay Ahuja, Jimmy Shergill, Dia Mirza, Adil Hussain, Abhay Verma, and Prajakta Koli.
