Bollywood veteran Jackie Shroff recently took to X to celebrate the 7th anniversary of the 2019 Konkani romantic drama Kantaar. Captioning his post, he wrote, "#07YearsOfKantaar @MalkarNilesh #EsterNoronha #AnnaSingh," alongside a 15-second video montage that blends beachside romance, emotional close-ups, and the film’s title credits.
Directed by Nilesh Malkar and produced by Janet Noronha, Kantaar stars Jackie Shroff, Ester Noronha, and Noel Sean. The film explores life in Goa and the pursuit of purpose, combining heartfelt storytelling with music, including jazz tracks sung by Lorna. It premiered at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on 28 January 2019, following Malkar and Shroff’s successful collaboration on the award-winning Konkani film Soul Curry.
In the film, Ester Noronha plays Angie, a young woman burdened with family responsibilities after her father’s sudden death and her sister’s kidney failure. On the brink of despair, Angie is saved from attempting suicide by Jordan Marcus, played by Jackie Shroff, a musician and part-time insurance agent. With his guidance, Angie begins to rebuild her life, eventually finding love with Anthony, played by Noel Sean, while reconnecting with her family and community.
The anniversary post evoked nostalgia among fans, who praised the film’s emotional depth, scenic Goan backdrop, and memorable performances. Shroff’s video highlights the enduring charm of Kantaar, a musical drama that blends romance, tragedy, and resilience, keeping its story alive even seven years after its release.
With Kantaar, Malkar and Shroff continue to highlight regional cinema’s potential to tell universally resonant stories, balancing heartfelt narratives with cultural authenticity and musical richness.
