Indian actor Pratik Gandhi reached a remarkable milestone in his acting journey as his much-anticipated international project, Gandhi, premiered at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) to an overwhelming response, culminating in a standing ovation from a global audience.

Having made his name through powerful performances in Indian cinema and web series, Pratik took a bold step forward with Gandhi, portraying the iconic leader Mahatma Gandhi in an ambitious and deeply personal project helmed by acclaimed director Hansal Mehta.

Following the world premiere, Pratik took to Instagram to express his heartfelt gratitude. Sharing a series of images and videos from the red carpet and inside the theatre, he captured the energy and emotion of the unforgettable evening. The post’s caption read:

“A very special day when #Gandhi premiered at #tiff50. Grateful and blessed to be here with the amazingly passionate team Gandhi, beautiful audience at TIFF and overwhelming response with a standing ovation, the joy in the air and that smile on all our faces.”

The series Gandhi is a nuanced retelling of Mahatma Gandhi’s early life, based on the extensive research and bestselling books by Ramachandra Guha – Gandhi Before India and Gandhi: The Years That Changed the World. Set across three planned seasons, the show is a character-driven epic aiming to humanize the global icon by tracing his lesser-known beginnings.

The first season, which wrapped up filming in August 2024, spans the years 1888 to 1915 — covering Gandhi's journey from a curious teenager in colonial India, to a timid law student navigating life in London, and ultimately a young lawyer who spends 23 transformative years in South Africa. These formative experiences laid the foundation for the global leader he would become.

Produced by Applause Entertainment, the show blends historical accuracy with cinematic storytelling, offering a fresh lens on Gandhi’s evolution as a thinker, reformer, and revolutionary.

Joining Pratik Gandhi in this international venture are actors Bhamini Oza, Kabir Bedi, and Hollywood star Tom Felton, best known for his role in the Harry Potter series. Felton portrays Josiah Oldfield, a key figure in Gandhi’s London years.

With its powerful subject, compelling performances, and international recognition at TIFF, Gandhi is already positioning itself as a landmark series in global storytelling. As it moves towards its wider release, audiences across the world await the unfolding of a historical saga told with authenticity, sensitivity, and artistic brilliance.

For Pratik Gandhi, TIFF was not just a premiere — it was a defining moment in a career built on integrity, dedication, and the courage to tell meaningful stories.
