It’s been 11 years since Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania first made us laugh, swoon, and cry a little—all in the name of love. To mark the occasion, Dharma Productions dropped a heartfelt promo with a caption that perfectly sums up its legacy: “A love story that made us emotional fools for all the right reasons!” Released on 11 July 2014, the film quickly found its way into our hearts with its vibrant energy, memorable characters, and charming romance.
Directed by debutant Shashank Khaitan, the film starred Varun Dhawan as the carefree Delhi munda Humpty and Alia Bhatt as the feisty Ambala girl Kavya. Their sparkling chemistry lit up the screen, while late actor Sidharth Shukla left a mark in his big-screen debut. The story may have followed a familiar path—boy meets girl, family drama ensues—but its heart, humor, and desi soul made it stand out.
With chartbuster tracks by Sachin–Jigar and Sharib–Toshi, relatable characters, and crackling dialogues, HSKD was both a critical and commercial success. Grossing over ₹119 crore worldwide, it was among the biggest hits of 2014. The film earned multiple nominations, including Best Actress for Alia Bhatt and Best Debut Director for Shashank Khaitan at the 60th Filmfare Awards.
Its popularity paved the way for a spiritual sequel, Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), once again reuniting Dhawan and Bhatt in a fresh story. But for many fans, it all began with Humpty and Kavya—and their joyful, chaotic, and very filmi love story that continues to make hearts flutter, 11 years later.
