Jackie Shroff recently celebrated the 33rd anniversary of his iconic film Angaar by sharing a heartfelt video on his social media. He captioned it with multiple throwback tags, remembering his co-stars Nana Patekar, Kader Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Om Puri, Achyut Potdar, Tom Alter, and costume designer Anna Singh.
Released in 1992, Angaar was a gripping Hindi crime drama directed by Shashilal K. Nair. The film stood out for its gritty portrayal of the underworld and its morally complex characters, making it a memorable entry in the crime drama genre. Jackie Shroff and Dimple Kapadia played the lead roles, bringing intensity and vulnerability to the narrative.
Alongside them, powerhouse performers like Nana Patekar, Om Puri, Kader Khan, and Kiran Kumar gave unforgettable performances that elevated the film’s impact. The ensemble cast brought raw realism to the story, which was speculated to have been inspired by the life of underworld figure Karim Lala.
Angaar struck a chord with audiences not only for its thrilling storyline but also for its haunting atmosphere and bold storytelling style, which was unusual for mainstream Bollywood cinema at that time. The film’s dark tone and social commentary gave it a cult status among fans of crime dramas.
Commercially, the film was a success, becoming the 9th highest-grossing Indian movie of 1992. Decades later, it remains an important film in Jackie Shroff’s career and a benchmark for hard-hitting crime dramas in Bollywood.
