The trailer launch of Cocktail 2 in Mumbai turned into a memorable evening as the film's cast and crew, including Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Rashmika Mandanna, director Homi Adajania, and producer Dinesh Vijan, came together to celebrate the upcoming release. Amid the excitement surrounding the romantic comedy-drama, Rashmika opened up about what convinced her to take on a role that she describes as unlike anything she has done before.
Speaking candidly about joining the project, Rashmika revealed that stepping into the world of Cocktail 2 was both exciting and intimidating. The actor said, "Neeru Sir, Luv Sir, Homi Sir—the whole gang. No, but honestly, I was really scared because this is, by far, the most 'urban' role I have ever taken on in cinema. And given the nature of my previous films, I feel like the audience sort of expects a very serious, dramatic kind of performance from me. But for the first time, I’ve done something this lighthearted—a film that focuses specifically on friendship, the madness, and the love."
The actress further explained that while she initially questioned whether taking up the film was the right decision, the uniqueness of the project ultimately convinced her. "Initially, I found myself wondering: 'Is this the right move to make?' But at the same time—precisely because I had never done anything like this before—I felt I had to do it. I feel that the audience, too, is looking for something new, something very different. And that was one of the main reasons why I felt this project was the perfect fit," she added.
Rashmika also addressed the common perception that romantic comedies are easier to perform than intense dramas. When asked whether doing a lighthearted entertainer was an easy experience, she quickly dismissed the idea. "No. No, no, no, no, no. Filmmaking is not easy, my love. I don't think any film can truly be 'easy'; however, the people you work with can certainly make the experience feel very lighthearted and incredibly memorable for you—and this project was exactly that kind of experience," she said.
Her comments offer fans a glimpse into a different side of the actor, who has largely been associated with emotionally driven and dramatic performances. With Cocktail 2, Rashmika appears ready to explore a more playful and contemporary character while embracing the chaos, friendship, and romance that form the heart of the story.
Directed by Homi Adajania, Cocktail 2 serves as a spiritual successor to the 2012 hit Cocktail. Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, and Rashmika Mandanna, the film introduces a fresh set of characters navigating the complicated dynamics of modern relationships. Promising romance, heartbreak, friendship, and plenty of entertaining twists, the film is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on June 19, 2026.
