Pixar has officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for its upcoming animated feature Gatto, giving audiences a charming first glimpse into a feline-filled adventure set in the iconic canals of Venice, Italy. The film marks the return of acclaimed Italian filmmaker Enrico Casarosa, who previously won over audiences with Pixar's beloved Italian-set coming-of-age story Luca. This time, Casarosa is taking viewers back to Italy for a tale centered on cats, crime, friendship, and self-discovery.
The newly released teaser introduces Nero, a scrappy black cat voiced by Mark Ruffalo, and Rocco, a feared feline mob boss voiced by Laurence Fishburne. In a humorous interrogation scene, the two characters question another cat, offering a taste of the film's blend of comedy, personality, and adventure. The teaser quickly establishes the unique tone of the movie while showcasing Pixar's stunning animation inspired by the beauty and mystery of Venice.
According to the official synopsis, Nero has spent years navigating the winding canals and superstitions of Venice while trying to survive on the city's streets. However, his life takes an unexpected turn when he begins questioning the choices he has made. Deeply indebted to the powerful mobster cat Rocco, Nero finds himself trapped in a difficult situation that forces him to form an unlikely friendship. That relationship may hold the key to discovering his true purpose—if the unpredictable city of Venice doesn't get in the way first.
The casting of Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne has already generated excitement among animation fans. Ruffalo brings his signature warmth and charm to Nero, while Fishburne's commanding voice appears perfectly suited for the intimidating yet intriguing character of Rocco. Their dynamic is expected to be one of the film's major highlights as the story unfolds.
Enrico Casarosa's return to the director's chair is another reason movie lovers are paying close attention to Gatto. After the success of Luca, the filmmaker has once again chosen Italy as the backdrop for an emotionally rich story. This time, however, he is exploring Venice through the eyes of its feline residents, combining local folklore, colorful culture, and Pixar's trademark heartwarming storytelling.
With its unique premise, star-studded voice cast, and breathtaking Venetian setting, Gatto is already shaping up to be one of Pixar's most anticipated releases in recent years. Fans won't have to wait too long to meet Nero and his fellow cats, as the animated adventure is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 5, 2027.
