The trailer of Suriya’s upcoming crime comedy Scene has given fans a glimpse of an entirely different side of the actor. Directed by Jithu Madhavan, the film sees Suriya playing DSP Inbaraj, a police officer who appears to have completely lost interest in his profession. Unlike the intense and action-driven cop characters audiences have seen him portray in the past, this time the actor steps into the shoes of a laid-back officer who has resigned from the force and has absolutely no intention of returning. The trailer, unveiled by the makers on Saturday, promises an entertaining mix of comedy, police drama and unexpected situations.
The trailer opens with Inbaraj enjoying a relaxed life at home after walking away from his police job. His attitude makes it clear that he is in no hurry to get back to work. In one particularly amusing moment, Alexa asks him what mood he wants his music to match, and he casually responds, “Any mood.” The scene perfectly captures his carefree personality. He is later seen preparing an omelette and playing with a stress ball while other police officers struggle to convince him to return to the department. His complete lack of urgency creates several humorous moments, making it clear that this is not the typical Suriya police officer fans might expect.
Things become even funnier when the officers inform Inbaraj that they have orders to bring him back to the police station. Instead of putting up a fight, he allows them to carry him out of his house. Even while being taken downstairs by his fellow officers, he continues smoking, seemingly unaffected by the entire situation. The sequence gives the trailer much of its comic energy and highlights the unusual personality of the character. When his senior officer questions why he would resign at the peak of his career, Inbaraj reveals that he wants to enter politics.
That particular dialogue has also attracted attention because it brings actor Vijay to mind. Vijay stepped away from his film career to focus on his political ambitions, making Inbaraj's sudden interest in politics an interesting talking point among viewers. Whether the reference is intentional or simply a humorous moment in the story, it adds another layer of curiosity to the character and the film. Suriya's transformation into an officer who would rather avoid police work than chase criminals also creates a striking contrast with his popular cop image from director Hari's Singam franchise.
Apart from Suriya, Scene features Nazriya Nazim Fahadh in a leading role. The supporting cast includes Anandraj, Lal and Raj Priyan. The film is produced by Jyotika and Suriya under the banner of Zhagaram Studios. With Jithu Madhavan at the helm, the project brings together an interesting combination of performers and a crime-comedy premise that appears to rely heavily on character-driven humour. The trailer has already offered a promising introduction to Inbaraj, whose unusual approach to police duty could become one of the film's biggest attractions.
Scene is scheduled to release in theatres on November 6, 2026, coinciding with Diwali. Meanwhile, Suriya was last seen in Venky Atluri's romantic drama Vishwanath & Sons, which also stars Mamitha Baiju, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Raveena Tandon, Sunil Reddy, Harika, Nassar and Rajiv Menon. The film follows Sanjay Vishwanath, a successful industrialist who embraces fatherhood through surrogacy and develops a close bond with a medical student named Maddy. It is currently available to stream on Netflix. With Scene, Suriya is now preparing to entertain audiences in a very different role, and the trailer has certainly raised expectations for this Diwali release.
