Vertical has unveiled the new official trailer for Pendulum, promising an even scarier experience than the film’s first teaser. Blending psychological tension, unsettling spiritual practices and the horrors of the unknown, the upcoming horror film takes viewers into a seemingly peaceful retreat where the promise of healing gradually turns into something far more disturbing. Starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Phoebe Dynevor in the lead roles, alongside Norman Reedus and Jacki Weaver, Pendulum explores how far people might go in search of peace after experiencing deep personal trauma.
The story follows married couple Patrick, played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Abigail, portrayed by Phoebe Dynevor. Following a traumatic event, the couple travels to a new-age retreat in New Mexico, hoping to find a way to heal and rebuild their lives. For Patrick, the journey is largely about helping his wife recover and finding a sense of normality after a difficult experience. The retreat initially appears to offer the kind of spiritual guidance and emotional support they desperately need. However, the atmosphere soon begins to change as the couple becomes increasingly involved with the group's unusual practices.
At the centre of the retreat is its enigmatic leader, played by Jacki Weaver. While Abigail gradually becomes drawn to the woman and her teachings, Patrick starts questioning the intentions behind the group's activities. His growing distrust creates tension between the couple, particularly as Abigail appears increasingly influenced by the leader. What begins as a hopeful journey towards recovery slowly develops into a frightening psychological battle, leaving Patrick uncertain about whom he can trust and what is really happening inside the retreat.
The newly released trailer builds on the unsettling atmosphere introduced in the first teaser, offering a closer look at the disturbing world surrounding the couple. Its central mystery revolves around whether the retreat's spiritual practices genuinely help people overcome their pain or whether something sinister is hiding behind its promises of transformation. As paranoia takes hold, Patrick and Abigail are forced to confront the possibility that the place they chose for healing could become a threat to their lives. The film's premise also raises an unsettling question: when people are emotionally vulnerable, how easily can their search for hope be turned against them?
Written and directed by Mark Heyman, Pendulum brings together a cast led by Gordon-Levitt and Dynevor, with Norman Reedus and Jacki Weaver adding to the film's ensemble. Rather than relying only on conventional horror elements, the story appears to draw much of its tension from psychological uncertainty, strained relationships and the fear of losing control. The contrast between the retreat's peaceful image and the terrifying possibilities beneath its surface gives the film an intriguing foundation for a chilling horror experience.
Pendulum is scheduled to arrive on January 1, 2027. With its new official trailer raising the stakes and offering a more frightening glimpse into the story, the film is shaping up as a dark start to the new year for horror fans. Audiences can look forward to seeing how Patrick and Abigail's search for healing unfolds—and whether they can escape the terrifying truth behind the retreat before it consumes them both.
