The romance, wit and sisterly chaos of Jane Austen’s beloved world are back on the big screen with the second and final official trailer for Sense and Sensibility. Focus Features and Working Title have unveiled the latest trailer for the new cinematic adaptation of Austen’s iconic 1811 novel, offering a closer look at the emotional journey of the Dashwood sisters. Directed by Georgia Oakley, the film promises a fresh and stylish take on a timeless story filled with young love, family bonds, heartbreak, social expectations and the ever-complicated question of finding the right partner.
Leading the new adaptation are Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles, who play sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood respectively. While the sisters share a close bond, their approaches to love and life could not be more different. After their family circumstances suddenly change, the two find themselves navigating romance and financial uncertainty while trying to understand what they truly want. The new trailer highlights the warmth and humour between the sisters while also teasing the emotional complications that come when matters of the heart collide with society’s expectations.
Set in Georgian-era England, Sense and Sensibility follows the Dashwood family after the death of wealthy Mr. Dashwood leaves his second wife and three daughters facing a dramatically changed financial situation. Forced to leave their Sussex estate, the women move to a modest cottage with the older Dashwood sisters soon finding themselves surrounded by potential suitors and complicated romantic possibilities. As Elinor attempts to keep her emotions under control while Marianne wears her heart more openly, the sisters find that love can be both exhilarating and painfully unpredictable.
The film boasts an impressive ensemble cast alongside its two leads, including Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum and Fiona Shaw. Their characters add further layers to Austen’s world of romance, class, family expectations and social manoeuvring. The final trailer gives audiences a glimpse of the film’s elegant period setting while maintaining the playful energy and emotional warmth expected from a modern adaptation of Austen’s work.
Behind the camera, the film brings together filmmaker Georgia Oakley, best known for the acclaimed Blue Jean, and screenwriter Diana Reid, who has adapted Austen’s classic novel for the new screen version. With its combination of lavish period details, sharp romantic complications and the central relationship between Elinor and Marianne, the film looks set to introduce the celebrated story to a new generation while retaining the qualities that have made Sense and Sensibility endure for more than two centuries.
The new Sense and Sensibility is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 16, 2026. With the final trailer now out, anticipation is building for this latest interpretation of Austen’s much-loved tale of love, sisterhood and the search for happiness. Whether audiences come for the romance, the humour, the period setting or the complicated Dashwood sisters, the film is preparing to give one of literature’s most enduring love stories a fresh cinematic makeover.
