Salman Khan has offered an exciting glimpse into the emotional world of his upcoming film Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace, promising audiences a powerful cinematic experience filled with action, humour, music and heartfelt moments. During the film's trailer launch event, the Bollywood superstar interacted with the media alongside the cast and crew and spoke about the emotions audiences can expect when they watch the movie. When asked whether there were moments during filming that made him emotional or even brought him to tears, Salman revealed that the entire story is built around those feelings. His biggest promise to viewers was particularly interesting: “When you walk out of the theatre, you’ll have tears of joy in your eyes.”
Explaining the film's emotional appeal, Salman said, “The entire film is built around that. When you walk out of the theatre, you’ll have tears of joy in your eyes. It has humour, songs, comedy, and themes of struggle. The action is fantastic, and the emotional depth is on an entirely different level.” His statement suggests that Maatrubhumi is not simply designed as a conventional war action film. While the movie features intense action sequences, it also aims to explore the human emotions, sacrifices and struggles connected to its subject. The actor's comments have raised expectations among fans who are curious to see how the film balances patriotism, entertainment and emotional storytelling.
Another important topic discussed during the interaction was the change in the film's title. The project was initially announced as Battle of Galwan before eventually becoming Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace. Given the film's subject and the attention surrounding its new title, Salman was asked whether the Defence Ministry had put any pressure on the team to change the title or rewrite parts of the script. The actor dismissed the suggestion completely, responding firmly, “Absolutely none. None at all.” His clarification indicates that the title change was a creative decision made by the filmmakers rather than the result of any pressure from the Defence Ministry.
Salman also explained how the team eventually settled on the name Maatrubhumi. According to the actor, the earlier title was temporarily written on the clapperboard, but the team had never intended to retain it as the final name. They were searching for something that better represented the film, and the answer eventually came from one of its songs. Salman shared, “We just put that [earlier] title on the clapperboard—we knew we didn't want to keep it. We were looking for a title, and we eventually found it in one of our songs: 'Matrubhumi'. That's Himesh's song—thank you, Himesh!” The revelation also highlighted the contribution of music composer Himesh Reshammiya, whose song helped inspire the film's final title.
The media interaction also had its lighter moments, especially when a reporter complimented Salman on his appearance and asked whether he had lost weight. Known for his straightforward and occasionally humorous responses, the actor kept things simple with a quick fitness tip: “Just eat less!” The brief exchange brought a smile to the conversation and offered a fun contrast to the more serious discussions about the film's emotional storyline and its subject matter. Salman's relaxed response once again showed his ability to connect with the media through his familiar, unfiltered personality.
Produced by Salma Khan under the banner of Salman Khan Films, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest In Peace is directed by Apoorva Lakhia and features Chitrangada Singh in a pivotal role. The film draws inspiration from the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops and was previously titled Battle of Galwan. With Salman describing its emotional depth as being on an entirely different level, audiences will be eager to discover how the film brings together its action, humour, songs and themes of struggle. His promise of tears of joy has certainly added another layer of curiosity ahead of its theatrical release.
