Dayanand Shetty, popularly known as Daya from the iconic television crime series CID, became emotional while speaking to the media at veteran filmmaker B. P. Singh's funeral in Mumbai. Remembering the man who remained a guiding force for the CID family for nearly three decades, the actor revealed that the team had visited Singh's home to seek his blessings before beginning work on their new show, Paapanasham. Despite his declining health, Singh blessed the team and prayed for their success.
Brijendra Pal Singh, fondly known as B. P. Singh, was a veteran television producer, director and cinematographer best known for creating the long-running detective series CID and the horror show Aahat. His passing has left the television industry mourning the loss of a visionary whose contribution extended beyond his work on screen. At his funeral, members of the CID cast and crew reunited to pay their final respects, with Dayanand also helping carry the filmmaker's mortal remains.
When asked about his close bond with Singh and his emotional presence at the funeral, Dayanand spoke about the deep connection shared by everyone associated with CID.
“Everyone associated with CID—the actors, the production unit, and the technicians—is very close. We have been companions for the last 27–28 years. Regardless of where else we might have worked, that team remains intact to this day. We are like a family. Looking around here, I see faces from our old team—people I hadn't seen in 28 or 30 years—reuniting today. The bond is undeniable,” he said.
The actor also expressed how difficult it would be for the team to move forward without Singh's guidance. Recalling their recent meeting with the late filmmaker, Dayanand revealed that the team had sought his blessings before working on their upcoming project.
“This is a huge loss for the industry—and for us, as we no longer have his guidance for the future. We had recently shot a new show, and before that, we visited his home to seek his blessings. Even though his health wasn't great, he still blessed us and offered many prayers for us. It is a major loss for the entire CID team and the entire CID cast,” Shetty said.
During the interaction, Dayanand was also asked about the much-anticipated return of CID, a show fans have repeatedly requested to see back on television. Giving an update on the team's next project, the actor confirmed that the episodes have already been shot and that post-production is currently underway.
“Yes, CID is returning, but not under the title 'CID'. It will now appear under the new name, 'Paapanasham'. The episodes have already been shot. We are currently working on the post-production, and I believe 'Paapanasham' should go on air very soon—likely around the first week of December. Please keep us in your prayers,” he added.
As fans continue to remember B. P. Singh for the legacy he created through CID, Dayanand's words offer a glimpse into the personal bond he shared with the team. His blessings for their new journey remain a cherished memory as the actors prepare to bring their next project to audiences.
