Actress Deepika Singh attended Shivani’s Karwa Chauth and Mehendi celebrations in Mumbai last night, looking stunning in a traditional suit. The actress, who is currently associated with Pati Patni Aur Panga, spoke about the significance of Karwa Chauth, balancing professional commitments with family traditions, and the importance of staying authentic in life. During an interaction with the media, Deepika also shared how this year’s celebration would be particularly special for her, revealing details about her packed shooting schedule, her husband Rohit’s involvement in public events, and the traditions she continues to follow with the support of her mother and mother-in-law.
When asked about her look for the evening and her thoughts on Karwa Chauth, Deepika offered a candid explanation of her earlier remark about “not doing anything.” She said, “Well, let me clarify what I meant by ‘not doing anything.’ If you’re looking at my lovely face and how decked up I am—well, at home, you’d usually just find me in pajamas and a T-shirt, so in that sense, I really don’t ‘do’ much!”
She then shared a broader message about authenticity, hard work and treating others with kindness. “But honestly, staying authentic and being true to yourself might not pay off in the short term, but it definitely does in the long run. People might initially find your straightforward, no-nonsense approach a bit off-putting, but I believe you should just keep moving forward on your path, keep working hard, and not overthink things. Be kind, cultivate compassion in your life, respect your elders, and treat everyone with respect. If you offer respect, you’ll find that you receive both love and respect in return,” the actress said.
Deepika also revealed why this Karwa Chauth is going to be especially memorable, with Pati Patni Aur Panga bringing her and her husband into the spotlight together. Speaking about the love the show has received, she said, “This Karwa Chauth is going to be very special because we’re doing Pati Patni Aur Panga, and the love we’re receiving from everyone has been incredible.” She added that the show had even encouraged Rohit to accompany her to a red-carpet event for the first time. “Before this, he never wanted to accompany me to any red-carpet events or award shows—he just wouldn’t go. I actually had to drag him along to the Dadasaheb Phalke Awards!”
Explaining how she plans to manage the festivities alongside her professional commitments, Deepika revealed that her schedule would leave her with very little time to rest. With the festival falling on the 29th and her shoot scheduled for the 28th, she expects to wrap up work around 1 am, followed by the sargi, or pre-dawn meal, at 4 am. “So, I’ll be up all night for Karwa Chauth, finally getting to sleep at 7 am, and then by noon, we’ll be performing the puja,” she explained.
When asked how she would maintain her energy while observing the fast, Deepika spoke about her background as an Odissi dancer and the importance of family traditions. “Look, it’s about tradition. As an Odissi dancer—a classical dancer—I’m accustomed to following traditions through my art form. Just as classical dance has its own set of traditions, families have theirs too. I didn’t overthink it; my mother observes this fast, and so does my mother-in-law. I felt, why not continue the tradition?” she said. She also revealed that her husband does not want her to fast and that she has sometimes told him a little white lie when observing the fast while away on a shoot. This time, however, she chose to be honest with him.
Deepika explained that she plans to stay hydrated during sargi by drinking electrolytes at 4 am. She added that her mother-in-law allows her certain exceptions, including sweetened milk or lassi and some fruit after offering arghya, or a ritual offering, to the Sun. Understanding the demands of her outdoor shoots, her mother-in-law has always allowed her the flexibility to manage the tradition in a way that works for her. Deepika also described the long wait for the moon, from around 3 or 4 pm until 10 pm, saying that the hours pass through making reels, scrolling through Instagram and completing household chores.
Sharing her message for married women observing Karwa Chauth, Deepika emphasised that traditions should be followed with love rather than pressure. “I’d just say this: if you’re able to follow the traditions, that’s wonderful. If not, that’s perfectly fine too—no judgments! Never pass judgment on others, and don’t judge yourself either. Just do whatever works for you. And most importantly, show respect and love to your elders. Everyone has their own perspective, and you should follow what resonates with you,” she said.
She added that bringing happiness to her mother and mother-in-law through small gestures gives her immense joy. Dressing up in a red saree and bangles also creates a festive atmosphere that children enjoy sharing with their families. Connecting the tradition to her classical dance background, Deepika spoke about shringar ras, the aesthetic of beauty and adornment, one of the fundamental rasas described in the Natya Shastra. She believes this spirit can bring warmth and love into a marriage.
Concluding her message, Deepika wished everyone a happy Karwa Chauth and a happy “Suhagan Day.” She encouraged women to keep the spirit of beauty and love alive, regardless of whether they choose to observe the fast. “I believe that if we can carry our traditions forward while blending them with a modern, progressive mindset, there is truly nothing more beautiful than that,” she said, summing up her belief that tradition and personal choice can coexist beautifully.
