The Sagars are back in the world of motion pictures, and this time, they are taking their storytelling to the biggest screens. Sagar Pictures Entertainment has unveiled the first teaser poster of Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata, and the first glimpse feels like a quiet entry into a completely different world. Pious, atmospheric and deeply rooted in tradition, the hand of Shri Krishna, in blessing, the poster sets the mood for what is being planned as a seven-part theatrical saga.
Part 1 titled Vishnurata, which means “the one protected by Vishnu”, the first chapter draws from the Bhagavatam Mahapurana, one of India's most revered sacred texts. With Lord Shri Krishna, the Supreme Divine at its heart, the Bhagavatam is a vast spiritual universe built around devotion, dharma and the eternal relationship between the human and the divine. The first look appears to understand that this is a story that needs more than spectacle; it needs a sense of faith and reverence.
For the Sagar banner, there is an obvious sense of coming home. This is the same house that gave India the landmark Ramayan in 1987 and helped make cultural storytelling a defining part of television. Decades later, that legacy is being carried forward by the next generation. Shrimad Bhagavatam Part 1 Vishnurata is co-directed by international award-winning filmmakers Akash Sagar Chopra and Amrit Sagar Chopra, grandsons of late filmmaker and producer Shri Ramanand Sagar. The connection gives the project an added layer — a familiar storytelling lineage meeting a new cinematic generation.
And the ambition here is clearly bigger than simply revisiting the past. The film is currently in the final stages of production, rumoured to have expansive production design and a distinct visual grammar which is being used to create a cinematic world rooted in realism and authenticity, while matching the scale and imagination of the source material. If the teaser poster is anything to go by, the makers are looking to create a world that feels grand, but retains the purity of the devotional characters within the story.
There is also something refreshing about seeing a legacy of a studio which has given historic hits, and now making its way into a contemporary large-scale theatrical format. The seven-part structure gives the makers the space to explore the vastness of the Bhagavatam rather than trying to fit its spiritual and narrative richness into a single film. It also makes Part 1 Vishnurata feel like the beginning of a much larger journey, one that could introduce the timeless world of the Bhagavatam to a new generation while retaining the real emotional familiarity that has always been part of Sagar storytelling.
Shrimad Bhagavatam Part I: Vishnurata is presented by Sagar Pictures Entertainment and is set to release worldwide in theatres across all premium formats in 2027. Further announcements on Part I are expected to follow. For now, the first poster has done what a good first look should — opened the door, offered a glimpse, and left us curious about the world waiting on the other side.
