Aamir Khan Productions has sparked nostalgia across cinema lovers with a new interactive campaign celebrating one of Indian cinema’s most iconic films. The studio has announced the #LagaanPosterChallenge, inviting fans to reimagine the legendary poster of Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India in their own creative style.

The announcement comes with a special video featuring director Ashutosh Gowariker, who invites audiences to reinterpret the film’s unforgettable imagery. The challenge marks a major milestone celebration as the 2001 classic approaches its 25th anniversary, reigniting memories of a film that became a landmark in Indian storytelling.

In the video, Gowariker showcases the original poster of Lagaan while explaining the rules of the challenge. Participants are encouraged to submit either handmade or digital artwork inspired by the film’s visual legacy. However, the makers have clearly stated that AI-generated entries will not be accepted, keeping the focus on personal creativity and artistic effort.

Submissions for the challenge will remain open until June 10, 2026, and fans can participate through email or by posting their artwork on social media using the official tag Aamir Khan Production. The initiative aims to reconnect audiences with the film’s powerful imagery while encouraging a new generation of artists to engage with its legacy.

Originally released in 2001, Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India was produced by Aamir Khan and directed by Ashutosh Gowariker. Set in 1893 during British colonial rule, the film follows a village in drought-stricken India that is challenged to a cricket match by a British officer as a wager against oppressive taxes. The villagers, unfamiliar with the sport, must learn cricket from scratch in a high-stakes battle for survival and dignity.

The film starred Aamir Khan alongside Gracy Singh, with supporting performances from British actors Rachel Shelley and Paul Blackthorne. It went on to earn global acclaim, including an Academy Award nomination, becoming one of the most celebrated Indian films worldwide.

With the launch of the #LagaanPosterChallenge, Aamir Khan Productions is not just celebrating a film, but reviving a cultural moment that continues to resonate decades later — blending nostalgia, creativity, and cinematic history into one interactive tribute.
