The trailer of the upcoming horror-comedy film Kapkapiii was launched in Mumbai on Wednesday, marking actor Tusshar Kapoor’s return to his favorite genre. Directed by the late Sangeeth Sivan and produced by Jayesh Patel, Kapkapiii is a Hindi remake of the 2023 Malayalam hit Romancham and is slated to release on 23 May 2025.

Alongside Tusshar, the film stars Shreyas Talpade and Siddhi Idnani. At the trailer launch event, Tusshar Kapoor got candid about his excitement for the film, his fondness for horror-comedies, and his deep personal connection with the late director Sangeeth Sivan.“I hadn’t read the full script, I had just heard the story from Sangeeth ji,” Tusshar recalled. “And it sounded really good. I was so excited to work with him again. I told him right then that I wanted to be part of the film. Horror is my favorite genre—I’ve done so many horror comedies.  It’s also my sister’s favorite genre. We were both Ramsay fans as kids.”

Tusshar described Kapkapiii as a contemporary and well-executed film:“This is very slick, very well enacted by all of us. The opportunity was great.”

Reflecting on the late director, Tusshar became emotional:“I’m flooded with memories. It’s all in God’s hands... Our first film together (Kyaa Kool Hai Hum) released on 6 May 2005. And now, exactly 20 years later, our second film is releasing. I feel very, very lucky to have had the chance to work with him again. This is definitely the right project for me.”

He further added, “He’s like part of the family. My first comedy was with him. Whatever I’ve learned about comedy, I learned from him first. He gave me a lifetime role then, and he’s given me a role of a lifetime now. He’ll always remain in our hearts.”

Tusshar also shared his thoughts on audience expectations:“There’s no pressure from the audience. They like a movie for what it is, and they appreciate an actor’s hard work and screen presence. After your first film, your work has to speak for you.”

Speaking about the film’s appeal, he added:“The mood of the industry keeps changing, but people are always ready for horror-comedies. India loves to be scared and entertained—it’s the best genre. What sets this film apart is how real the characters feel. The look is authentic—they belong to the lower middle class. It’s not a forced horror-comedy. It’s more like a horror film where the situations naturally create humor.”
