Oscilloscope Labs has unveiled the official trailer for The Kidnapping of Arabella, the latest feature from acclaimed Italian filmmaker Carolina Cavalli. Following the success of her previous work, Cavalli returns with another distinctive and emotionally layered story that blends drama, self-discovery, and a touch of magical thinking. The film is set to arrive in theaters on July 17, 2026.

At the center of the story is Holly, played by Benedetta Porcaroli, a young woman stuck in a dead-end job and consumed by the belief that she is living the wrong version of her life. She spends her days fantasizing about alternate realities, wondering where things went off track and imagining countless paths she could have taken. Her outlook changes when she crosses paths with Arabella, an outspoken and rebellious eight-year-old girl portrayed by Lucrezia Guglielmino.

What begins as a chance encounter quickly turns into something far more meaningful in Holly's mind. Convinced that their meeting is a cosmic sign, she starts believing that Arabella is actually her younger self sent back through time to offer her a second chance. As the unlikely duo sets off on an unconventional road trip, the film explores themes of regret, identity, loneliness, and the search for purpose through the eyes of two lost souls who may be exactly what the other needs.

The trailer teases a heartfelt and quirky journey filled with emotional revelations and moments of humor. Arabella, meanwhile, is dealing with her own struggles, hoping to escape from her self-absorbed father, Orest D, played by Chris Pine. The actor's involvement adds international star power to the Italian production, which has already attracted attention on the festival circuit and among independent film fans.

Speaking about the inspiration behind the story, Cavalli explained that Holly represents a generation of people who constantly feel that life is happening somewhere else. She noted that while imagining alternative futures can feel exciting, it can also distract people from appreciating reality, its beauty, its challenges, and their own place within it. That idea appears to be at the heart of The Kidnapping of Arabella, which uses an unusual premise to explore very relatable emotions.

Also known by its Italian title Il rapimento di Arabella, the film is both written and directed by Carolina Cavalli. With its blend of introspective storytelling, whimsical road-trip adventure, and strong performances from Benedetta Porcaroli, Lucrezia Guglielmino, and Chris Pine, The Kidnapping of Arabella is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing indie releases of the summer when it opens on July 17, 2026.
