A24 has released the second official trailer for Materialists, the highly anticipated romantic drama from acclaimed filmmaker Celine Song, known for her deeply human storytelling in Past Lives. Slated for release on June 13, 2025, Materialists explores love, ambition, and the messy middle ground in between.
The film stars Dakota Johnson as Lucy, a successful New York City matchmaker whose carefully constructed life begins to unravel when she becomes entangled in a toxic love triangle. As she navigates her high-end business of pairing clients with their "perfect" matches, Lucy is forced to confront her own imperfect past—including an unresolved romance with her ex, played by Pedro Pascal. Meanwhile, Chris Evans enters the fray as a charming, seemingly ideal new partner who disrupts the delicate balance even further.
The ensemble cast also includes Zoë Winters, Marin Ireland, Dasha Nekrasova, Louisa Jacobson, and Sawyer Spielberg, adding layers of complexity to this character-driven story set against the glossy yet emotionally raw backdrop of Manhattan.
With Celine Song once again writing and directing, Materialists promises the same emotional nuance and bittersweet beauty that made Past Lives a critical darling. This time, however, she shifts from introspective nostalgia to sharp, contemporary drama, examining modern love through the lens of status, self-worth, and desire.
The trailer teases a stylish, emotionally charged film that asks: What happens when a matchmaker can’t find her own perfect match? With Song’s signature visual storytelling and a powerhouse cast, Materialists is poised to be one of A24’s standout releases of the year.
