Veteran actor Paresh Rawal has unveiled the trailer of his latest film, The Taj Story, a provocative courtroom drama set to hit theatres on October 31, 2025. Sharing the trailer online with the caption “Hum khodege nahi, kholege!”, Rawal promises a film that dives deep into one of India’s most contentious historical debates — the origins of the Taj Mahal. Directed by Tushar Amrish Goel and produced by CA Suresh Jha, the film stars an ensemble cast including Zakir Hussain, Namit Das, Amruta Khanvilkar, Sneha Wagh, and Shishir Sharma.

At the heart of The Taj Story lies the controversial theory that the Taj Mahal was not built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan but was originally a Hindu temple called Tejo Mahalaya. This pseudohistorical claim, popularised by the late author P.N. Oak, has been repeatedly dismissed by Indian courts and historians due to the lack of credible evidence and the presence of detailed Mughal-era documentation confirming the monument’s 17th-century Islamic architecture and intent. Despite this, the film dramatizes arguments about the sealed chambers, architectural designs, and hidden heritage — all within the framework of a courtroom showdown.

While the trailer has piqued public curiosity with its bold tone and courtroom theatrics, it has also sparked criticism for reviving discredited theories in a country already grappling with politicized history. Lines such as calling the Taj Mahal “a symbol of atrocity, not love” hint at the film’s attempt to challenge mainstream historical understanding — a creative choice that is likely to generate as much debate as it does ticket sales.

Whether seen as cinematic fiction or a provocative retelling, The Taj Story is poised to ignite discussions around history, identity, and truth in modern India. With Paresh Rawal leading a powerhouse cast and a sensitive subject at its core, the film’s release on October 31 is likely to draw attention far beyond the box office — from cultural critics to political commentators.
