Magnolia Pictures has released the official trailer for The Carpenter’s Son, an eerie and ambitious genre-bender from filmmaker Lotfy Nathan that’s already generating buzz for its unsettling premise and bold reimagining of biblical figures. Starring Nicolas Cage, FKA Twigs, Noah Jupe, and Isla Johnston, the film is a hallucinatory dive into faith, temptation, and supernatural warfare — set in the dust and mystery of Roman-era Egypt.
In The Carpenter’s Son, Cage plays Joseph, a devout carpenter trying to shield his family from the dark forces creeping into their world. Alongside FKA Twigs as Mary and Noah Jupe as a teenage Jesus, the family lives in relative obscurity — until a stop in a remote settlement unleashes something ancient and malevolent. A mysterious girl (Isla Johnston) begins to influence Jesus, pulling him away from his parents’ teachings and toward visions that blur the line between prophecy and possession.
This isn’t your Sunday school story. With elements of body horror, psychological dread, and religious symbolism, The Carpenter’s Son morphs into a full-blown spiritual thriller — one where the child at the center of the world’s most sacred story is hunted not by men, but by the devil herself. As Jesus is plagued by terrifying visions and increasingly violent phenomena, Joseph must confront the unimaginable: that his son is being groomed by Satan, disguised as a playmate.
Shot in stark, desert landscapes with an experimental visual style, the film is said to be both meditative and shocking — with Nicolas Cage delivering a performance that’s equal parts anguished and apocalyptic. FKA Twigs, meanwhile, brings ethereal grace and quiet strength to Mary, while Jupe takes on a deeply complex role in a chilling reimagining of the boyhood of Jesus.
The Carpenter’s Son opens in theaters November 14th, 2025 — and if the trailer is any indication, it’s poised to spark conversation, controversy, and perhaps a few nightmares.
