MUBI is stepping into the world of family drama with Hal and Harper, and judging by the just-released trailer, it’s bringing both heart and chaos in equal measure. Created, written, and directed by indie darling Cooper Raiff, the upcoming mini-series stars Raiff himself alongside Lili Reinhart as two deeply codependent siblings trying to keep their emotional lives intact in the wild landscape of Los Angeles.
The series, premiering October 19th, 2025, promises an intimate, often messy exploration of love, family, and the kind of sibling bond that feels less like affection and more like emotional weather. When their dad (played by the always-brilliant Mark Ruffalo) drops a life-altering announcement, Hal and Harper are forced to confront their tangled past and rethink their present relationships — whether they’re romantic, platonic, or somewhere confusingly in-between.
The supporting cast is stacked with talent, including Betty Gilpin, Alyah Chanelle Scott, Addison Timlin, Asher Alexander, and Havana Rose Liu. But the heart of the show lies in Raiff and Reinhart’s electric chemistry as two adult siblings who are a little too entangled in each other’s lives — in ways that are as touching as they are dysfunctional.
Hal and Harper looks poised to be a slow-burn emotional gut-punch, delivered with Raiff’s signature style — raw, wry, and weirdly warm. Think Euphoria meets Transparent, with a bit of Little Miss Sunshine awkwardness thrown in. Get ready for a series that unpacks sibling trauma, Gen-Z growing pains, and those awkward family truths you only say during a fight... or therapy.
