Actor Arjun Mathur, best known for his nuanced performances in films and series like Made in Heaven, got real with the press during the trailer launch of his upcoming film Lord Curzon Ki Haveli in Mumbai. In a refreshingly honest moment, the actor revealed that he once took up a film solely for financial reasons—and lived to regret it.
“I have done it once,” he said, candidly. “I did a film just for money, but in retrospect, I hated that experience. Being on that set every day—I was miserable.” His honesty struck a chord as he stressed the importance of choosing stories that speak to the heart, not just the wallet.
Arjun explained that for him, it's not about chasing box office numbers, but rather chasing moments of emotional truth. “If I see something and it touches me, stirs something inside me or provokes a thought—then I want to bring that to the audience. That’s the only real control I have as an actor,” he shared. “When your heart is in something, only then can you do a good job.”
Mathur’s latest project Lord Curzon Ki Haveli, a Hindi-language black comedy thriller, seems to be one such story close to his heart. Directed by Anshuman Jha and featuring a sharp ensemble including Rasika Dugal, Zoha Rahman, and Paresh Pahuja, the film unravels over one strange dinner where a casual announcement—“there’s a body in the trunk”—turns into a sinister spiral of secrets and shocks.
With its dark humor and Hitchcockian vibes, Lord Curzon Ki Haveli promises to be the kind of project that stirs thought and provokes emotion—the very things Mathur says he now values above all else.
The film releases in theatres on October 11, 2025.
