Universal Pictures has just dropped the chilling second trailer for the highly anticipated horror sequel, Black Phone 2, sending fans spiraling back into the eerie world of The Grabber, played once again by Ethan Hawke in what may be his most terrifying role yet. Set for an October 17, 2025 release, the film reunites the original cast and creative team, with Scott Derrickson returning to direct and co-write alongside C. Robert Cargill.
The trailer teases a darker, more psychological horror experience. Mason Thames reprises his role as Finn, now 17 and still haunted by his abduction. But this time, it’s his younger sister Gwen (the excellent Madeleine McGraw) who begins to unravel the next chapter of the horror. Plagued by dream-calls from the titular black phone and chilling visions of children stalked at a snow-covered camp called Alpine Lake, Gwen is pulled into a ghostly mystery that feels far more personal—and more dangerous.
The Grabber, now operating from beyond the grave, is more malevolent than ever, using Gwen's psychic abilities against her and driving a wedge of dread into the sibling bond. When Gwen convinces Finn to visit the camp during a blizzard, the two uncover a terrifying connection between the killer’s evil legacy and their own family’s past. What was once survival now becomes confrontation—and the question is no longer can they escape, but can they destroy what’s already dead?
With Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora also returning, the film leans into its supernatural themes more boldly than the first, offering a blend of ghost story, psychological thriller, and family horror. The haunting winter camp setting and the eerie escalation of The Grabber’s powers suggest Black Phone 2 is not just a sequel—it’s a full-fledged expansion of the franchise’s mythos.
