Jane Austen’s timeless world of romance, family, money and complicated feelings is getting a fresh cinematic makeover. Focus Features has unveiled a new featurette for Sense and Sensibility, the latest big-screen adaptation of Austen’s beloved classic, offering audiences a closer look at the film and the sisters at its heart. Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esmé Creed-Miles as Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, the film promises to bring a familiar story to the screen with a fresh visual and emotional approach.
The story follows sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, whose lives take an unexpected turn after the death of their father leaves the family facing financial difficulties. Forced to leave their Sussex estate, the sisters move with their mother to a more modest home, where their search for happiness becomes closely tied to matters of love, money and social expectations. While Elinor approaches life with restraint and practicality, Marianne is passionate, emotional and determined to follow her heart—a contrast that has made the sisters such enduring characters in Austen’s work.
Daisy Edgar-Jones takes on the role of Elinor, while Esmé Creed-Miles plays Marianne, bringing two very different personalities together at the centre of the film. Their journey unfolds against the backdrop of Georgian-era England, where romance is rarely as simple as following your heart. With suitors, family expectations and financial realities constantly complicating matters, the sisters find themselves navigating a world where love and security do not always point in the same direction.
The new adaptation also features an impressive ensemble cast, including Bodhi Rae Breathnach, Caitríona Balfe, George MacKay, Frank Dillane, Herbert Nordrum and Fiona Shaw. Behind the camera, Sense and Sensibility is directed by British filmmaker Georgia Oakley, who previously helmed the acclaimed film Blue Jean. Producers Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, India Flint and Jo Wallett are backing the project, bringing together a creative team tasked with giving one of literature’s most recognisable romances a new cinematic identity.
Sense and Sensibility is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on October 16, 2026.
