Netflix has unveiled the main official trailer for Gentle Monster, an unsettling psychological thriller from Austrian filmmaker Marie Kreutzer that is set to arrive this fall. Starring Léa Seydoux in the lead, the film follows a concert pianist whose seemingly stable family life is shattered when police arrive at her home to arrest her husband for an unspeakable crime. What begins as a shocking disruption quickly turns into a deeply personal crisis as she is forced to question how well she truly knows the man she loves.

Seydoux stars as Lucy Weiss, a concert pianist who has recently moved with her family to a country house in the hope of helping her husband Philip recover from severe burnout. However, their plans for a fresh start barely get underway before an early morning police visit turns their world upside down. Philip, played by Laurence Rupp, is arrested over allegations of child sexual abuse, leaving Lucy caught between her love for her husband and the horrifying possibility that he may have been living a secret life right in front of her.

The trailer sets up Gentle Monster as a tense exploration of what happens when trust within a family suddenly disappears. Lucy is not only dealing with the consequences of Philip’s arrest but also trying to protect their son while attempting to understand the truth behind the allegations. As disturbing revelations begin to surface, the film places its central character in an emotionally complicated position where every memory, conversation and moment shared with her husband can suddenly look different. The story uses this crisis to examine love, deception, denial and the painful process of confronting an uncomfortable reality.

Directed and written by Marie Kreutzer, the film appears to take a deliberately intimate approach to its disturbing subject matter. Rather than focusing solely on the crime, Gentle Monster puts Lucy and her emotional turmoil at the centre of the story. The filmmaker explores the devastating question of what a person does when someone they love turns out to be someone they never really knew. The contrast between Lucy’s quiet family life and the shocking truth surrounding her husband gives the thriller an increasingly uneasy atmosphere, while the isolated country setting adds to the sense of vulnerability.

Alongside Léa Seydoux and Laurence Rupp, the cast includes Jella Haase and legendary French actress Catherine Deneuve. The film also features music by Camille, adding another creative element to a project that appears to rely heavily on atmosphere, tension and character-driven storytelling. Seydoux’s portrayal of Lucy is expected to carry much of the film, particularly as her character moves from disbelief and confusion towards confronting the reality unfolding around her.

Gentle Monster is scheduled to begin its theatrical rollout in select US cinemas on October 30, 2026, before arriving on Netflix for streaming on November 18. With its unsettling premise, acclaimed European filmmaker at the helm and Léa Seydoux leading the cast, the film is shaping up as a dark psychological drama built around one devastating question — what happens when the person you trust most becomes the person you fear you never truly knew? The trailer sets the stage for a tense and emotionally heavy story that promises to stay with viewers long after the shocking truth comes to light.
