Marking its entry into Malayalam cinema, Junglee Pictures — the studio behind acclaimed Hindi films like Raazi, Badhaai Ho, and Talvar — has unveiled the teaser of its upcoming Malayalam feature Ronth, a tense, character-driven drama directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Shahi Kabir. The film is slated for release on 13th June 2025, and already, cinephiles are taking notice.
Set against the shadows and stillness of the night, Ronth follows two police officers on graveyard shift — Sub Inspector Yohannan (played by the formidable Dileesh Pothan) and his junior, Dinanath (the ever-introspective Roshan Mathew). What seems at first like a routine patrol soon unfurls into a simmering, slow-burn story about duty, hierarchy, and the unspoken friction between experience and youth.
The teaser, though brief, is deeply atmospheric — rain-soaked roads, murky alleys, silent glances, and tense conversations hint at a film that’s as much about what’s said as what’s left unsaid. Director Shahi Kabir, known for his sharp writing in Nayattu and Joseph, brings his signature realism and moral complexity to this project, inviting viewers into the unseen emotional terrain of two men in uniform navigating not just the streets, but each other.
At its heart, Ronth appears to be more than just a police procedural. It’s about mentorship clashing with rebellion, silence speaking louder than orders, and the way power subtly shifts in the darkest hours. The casting is a quiet masterstroke — Dileesh Pothan, known for his layered performances, embodies the seasoned cop who believes in restraint, while Roshan Mathew brings spark and sharpness to the younger officer still finding his place.
The film is backed by an interesting mix of producers — Vineet Jain (Junglee Pictures), Rathish Ambat, Renjith EVM, and Jojo Jose, with Amrita Pandey co-producing. Their involvement signals an investment not just in a film, but in a new direction for mainstream Malayalam storytelling — one that’s rooted, minimalist, yet rich in emotion and craft.
As Junglee Pictures forays into regional cinema, Ronth might just serve as a compelling entry point. And if the teaser is any indication, this film could be a slow-burning thriller that says a lot without ever raising its voice — exactly the kind of story Malayalam cinema does best.
