Salman Khan may be one of India's biggest superstars, but according to his Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace co-star Chitrangada Singh, the actor carries his fame with remarkable humility. Speaking at the Crafting Bharat Awards, Chitrangada opened up about her experience working with Salman Khan and had nothing but admiration for the Bollywood icon, describing him as approachable, grounded, and vastly different from the image often portrayed through rumors.
When asked about collaborating with Salman Khan on the upcoming war drama, Chitrangada delivered a heartfelt response that is sure to delight the superstar's fans.
"Well, I mean, what can I say? There isn't anything about him that people haven't already heard; everyone talks about him so much. He is a truly wonderful person. I feel that the reality is completely opposite to the rumors circulating about him. My experience was that he is extremely helpful and humble. He is so approachable—perhaps even more so than I am. You know, we perceive him as a superstar, yet he is just like one of us. I think that is the beauty of achieving success at that level—you don't have to carry the weight of stardom around with you" said Chitrangada.
Her comments offer a glimpse into the off-screen personality of Salman Khan, who continues to enjoy immense popularity across generations. Chitrangada's observations reinforce what many of his colleagues have said over the years—that despite his larger-than-life status, Salman remains accessible and supportive to those around him.
The actress also reflected on the challenging conditions under which Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace was filmed. While reports had surfaced regarding Salman Khan sustaining an injury during production, Chitrangada chose not to comment on the matter directly. Instead, she highlighted the physically demanding nature of the shoot and praised the dedication of the cast and crew.
"An injury? Well, it would be better if you asked him about that; I shouldn't really comment on such matters. But it was a great experience. There were severe dust storms, and shooting was very difficult. They were filming a lot of action sequences there—things I didn't have to do myself. I was only there for the song-and-dance sequences; I didn't shoot any dramatic scenes. But the team was working incredibly hard. Salman was performing a lot of action stunts amidst the biting cold and dust storms, so it was definitely tough."
The film has already generated significant buzz among moviegoers. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Films banner, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace stars Salman Khan in the lead role alongside Chitrangada Singh. The project is loosely inspired by a chapter from Shiv Aroor's acclaimed non-fiction book India's Most Fearless, which chronicles the 2020 China-India Galwan Valley clashes involving soldiers of the Indian Army's 16 Bihar Regiment led by Colonel B. Santosh Babu.
As anticipation continues to build, fans are eagerly awaiting the film's first official look. Fortunately, Chitrangada suggested they may not have to wait much longer.
"I think very soon—very, very soon. Yes. Thank you. You should ask Salman about my performance. Thank you. Thank you so much."
With a powerful real-life-inspired backdrop, a major star cast, and growing curiosity surrounding the project, Maatrubhumi: May War Rest in Peace is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated releases on the horizon. And if Chitrangada Singh's comments are anything to go by, audiences can expect both an emotionally charged story and a memorable performance from Salman Khan.
