Ridhi Dogra, known for her powerful performances and the niche she has carved out in the television and film industry, recently opened up about the continuing trend of item numbers and scenes in Indian cinema where women are portrayed as mere objects of desire. In a candid and thought-provoking take, the actress didn’t hold back from highlighting how deep-rooted societal mindsets still fuel such portrayals.

Speaking about the prevalence of objectifying scenes and songs, Ridhi said: “You can’t always point fingers at the industry or the actresses. The content that gets promoted reflects the mindset of our society. We are creating all kinds of content—but only certain types get attention, because men are watching. Men don’t have the dignity or respect to change the narrative. That change needs to come from society itself—it’s not on the women.

These actresses have all worked hard, delivered what was required gracefully, and moved on without judging anyone. They deserve to be applauded for their professionalism.”

She emphasized that the real issue lies not just in what is being created, but in what is being consumed:

“This is a take on our society—why do you want to watch such content? Would you watch it with your mother, your sister, your family? No, you wouldn’t. So the responsibility is on you. Reject it. If you stop watching it, it won’t be made.”

Ridhi’s statement holds a mirror to the audience, urging a collective self-reflection. By calling out not just the industry but the viewers who drive demand, she has added a much-needed perspective to the ongoing conversation around gender, dignity, and representation in media.
