After months of anticipation, veteran actor and filmmaker Anupam Kher has officially announced the release date of his much-talked-about directorial project Tanvi The Great. The film is slated for a theatrical release on July 18, 2025, marking Kher’s long-awaited return to direction after several years.
The announcement was made through Kher’s official social media accounts, where he also unveiled the first poster of the film. The powerful visual features debutante Shubhangi Dutt standing confidently beside Indian soldiers, with the national flag waving in the backdrop — symbolizing the film’s themes of identity, pride, and inner strength. He wrote “They called her different, but she never saw that as a weakness,” Kher wrote in his caption. “While the world tried to fit her into boxes, she chose to break them, one by one. Tanvi The Great is a reminder that being different doesn’t make you less — it makes you unstoppable. Unveiling the first poster of Tanvi The Great - a story of strength, dreams, and unstoppable courage. Meet Tanvi in cinemas on 18th July.
The July 18 release date comes after the film’s global debut at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, where it premiered to an emotional response from international audiences. The screening at the festival’s Marché du Film was followed by standing ovations and praise for its message and performances.
Kher’s decision to bring the film first to cinemas reflects his confidence in the theatrical experience, despite growing trends toward digital releases.
Tanvi The Great brings together a powerful ensemble cast that includes Iain Glen, Boman Irani, Jackie Shroff, Arvind Swami, Pallavi Joshi, Karan Tacker, and Nasser, alongside Kher himself, who plays Colonel Pratap Raina — a character central to the film’s emotional arc.
The music is composed by M. M. Keeravani, known globally for his Oscar-winning work, further raising expectations for the film.
Produced by Anupam Kher Studios in association with NFDC, and distributed by AA Films, Tanvi The Great is positioned as a landmark project in Kher’s career — both as a filmmaker and a storyteller.
