Known for his intense and layered performances, Neeraj Kabi is stepping into entirely new territory in the upcoming Prime Video series Do You Wanna Partner? At the trailer launch of the show on Friday, the acclaimed actor surprised everyone by describing his role as something he’s “never done before” — and one that even he couldn’t have imagined attempting.
“It’s a really fun character — the kind I’ve never performed before,” Kabi said with a smile. “I won’t call it completely different, but unlike the others in the show, he’s not a ‘jugaadu’ (schemer). He’s genuinely fun.”
Diving deeper into the complexity of the role, he explained: “It’s the kind of character you’ll fall in love with… and maybe hate at the same time. By the end, you might even carry him in your heart. He’s someone who does the right things, but in a very light, breezy way.”
The actor, widely regarded for his dramatic gravitas, revealed that Do You Wanna Partner? has pushed him into a comedic and quirky space — something he’s rarely explored on screen. “It has a lot of comedic elements — and a certain quirkiness — which I’ve never done in my lifetime. Honestly, I never imagined I’d be able to do something like this.”
Giving full credit to the show's directors, Collin D’Cunha and Kumar, Kabi said their approach allowed him to explore the role freely:“The credit goes to both the directors. Whenever I tried to figure out how to perform the character, they never imposed their ideologies or thoughts on what I should or shouldn’t do. They gave me that space — and it was beautiful.”
Reflecting on his performance, Neeraj added: “What you’re seeing me do on screen — I couldn’t have even imagined myself doing it. I’ve only done this kind of work in theatre, many years ago, just to get the audience to clap. But I never thought I’d be doing it in front of a camera.”
To the surprise of many, he shared that the character also mirrors his own personality in real life: “People think I’m serious, but I’m not. I had a blast doing this role.”
Do You Wanna Partner? is an upcoming eight-episode series created by Mithun Gangopadhyay and Nishant Nayak, directed by Collin D’Cunha and Kumar, and produced by Dharmatic Entertainment. The show centers around the journey of two unlikely business partners navigating the startup world with chaos, charm, and ambition — led by Tamannaah Bhatia and Diana Penty.
The ensemble cast also features Jaaved Jaaferi, Nakuul Mehta, Shweta Tiwari, Rannvijay Singha, Sufi Motiwala, and of course, Neeraj Kabi in a role that promises to redefine how audiences see him.
Set to premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video on September 12, 2025, the series is a refreshing mix of humor, hustle, and heart.
