The courtroom is back in session—The Trial returns for Season 2, and so does Kajol, reprising her role as the fierce and layered Noyonika Sengupta. The trailer, which dropped on Friday, teases a season brimming with fresh legal conflicts, emotional upheavals, and a protagonist caught between justice and her personal journey.

Speaking at the trailer launch, Kajol opened up about how the new season dives into complexities that feel both intimate and universally relatable. “What you saw in the trailer is just a glimpse. This season is much more interesting and layered,” Kajol shared. “It tells a story that’s actually quite common. If you’re talking about a woman’s strength—every woman has it. Whether it’s for her children or for herself, we keep making those tough decisions.”

Reflecting on her character’s dual roles, Kajol added with heartfelt realism: “Some days, Noyonika is a great mom, some days she’s a great lawyer. It really depends on the day—and the episode.”

She also had glowing praise for co-star Kubbra Sait, who joins the ensemble this season. “Working with Kubbra has been amazing. She’s one of those rare people who takes criticism, wit, even betrayal—any sort of negativity—and transforms it into something positive. It’s really quite remarkable.”

Kajol emphasized how naturally she connected with Noyonika’s character. She said, “Noyonika was an easy character to relate to. Most women have been through something similar. We all understand the conscious choices we make as women. I’ve been lucky to have incredible women around me who manage all the things Noyonika does—without ever appearing on a screen. I take inspiration from them.”

Addressing the societal lens through which mothers are often viewed, Kajol got candid about the impact of motherhood on her life and career.“When you’re a mother, especially in our society, there’s a certain perception. Society has a specific way of seeing you—and that influences the kind of scripts you’re even offered,” she noted. “I could never deny that I’m a mother. I love my kids. I’ve always said they are the best things I’ve done in my life. That’s a huge part of how people see me—and how I see myself.”

Set to premiere on September 19, 2025, on JioCinema, the new season promises to explore deeper themes through Noyonika’s character, especially as she continues to juggle life as a mother and a lawyer, following the scandalous downfall of her husband, Rajiv Sengupta (played by Jisshu Sengupta), who was arrested in Season 1 for corruption and a sex scandal.
