Madhuri Dixit is gearing up for a bold and surprising transformation in her upcoming thriller series Mrs Deshpande, directed by acclaimed filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor. The trailer, released on December 1, has already sparked excitement among fans, offering a glimpse of Madhuri in a shadowy, unpredictable avatar—an outwardly ordinary woman who is, in reality, a convicted serial killer now aiding the police in tracking down a deadly copycat.
At the trailer launch, Madhuri spoke candidly about this dramatic shift in her screen persona. “I’ve never played a character like this before. It’s a thriller, and in it I play the role of a serial killer. I truly hope my audience watches this role. Nagesh Kukunoor and Applause have created something exceptional together. And of course, it’s coming to JioHotstar—don’t forget the date, December 19. Please do watch it; we’ve worked very hard. It has thrill, it has mystery, and you’ll see me in a completely different avatar. All these years my smile has made you laugh, has given you a romantic feeling—but this time, you might actually feel scared.”
She also spoke about the challenge of immersing herself in a part so far removed from her usual screen roles. “When an actor takes on such a role, you have to inhabit it truthfully—you have to stand up to its demands. And I’ve done exactly that.”
Reflecting on her remarkable four-decade-long career, Madhuri expressed gratitude for the people who have given her strength along the way. “There have been many ups and downs in my 40-plus years in the industry. But my biggest strength has always been my fans and of course, my mother, who was my greatest support. My fans motivate me, make me feel free to try new roles and challenge myself because they’ve always stood by me.”
Mrs Deshpande features Siddharth Chandekar, expected to play her son, along with Priyanshu Chatterjee in a significant supporting role. Produced by Applause Entertainment and directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, the series promises psychological intrigue, layered emotions, and a side of Madhuri Dixit audiences have never seen before.
